Document your work in a notebook with dated accomplishments so you can respond confidently when colleagues undermine you. Keep specific examples ready to present as evidence of what you've actually done, and rehearse your responses before performance review season.
When you hang up the phone with me, take a notebook dedicated to this and write down from memory everything that you took upon yourself. I took it upon myself to have a bi weekly meeting. I took upon myself to understand which, what each of the team members did. I took it upon myself to call the IT guy to show him that if they don't have a facility they could go to in Texas, there's no reason to consider their survey. Because, you know, the problem is, Jill, is that you constantly take things upon yourself and you're a stellar employee, but you can't communicate it. And that's why this maniac walks all over you. I truly feel that if you would do the work, the personal work to build this confidence, to talk about your accomplishments, that would take care of her. She keeps walking all over you is because she can. And you're at a loss for words. Once you're going to have these stars. These stars also act as confidence builders because next time she's going to say, oh, Jill, you're useless. You never, you never partner with anybody else. You're going to say, oh, really? Hold on one second. And you're going to say, well, let me give you the evidence. On October 30th, I did this. On November 15th, I did this. And currently I'm doing this. So are you sure you want to say that she will? The idea is, and what I think I'm opening your mind to is I want her never to catch you off guard because you're overwhelmed because you're doing so much work and you don't have the evidence in front of you like I was. What do I say? What do I say? And then you know what? You just given when we're not going to do that anymore.
