How to Negotiate a Salary

This is a YouTube video titled "How to Negotiate a Salary" containing a detailed monologue or coaching session focused on salary negotiation strategies. The speaker, likely a career or negotiation coach, provides advice on how to approach salary discussions, including tactics for negotiating base pay, PTO, sign-on bonuses, and other benefits. The content is instructional and aimed at helping viewers navigate job offer negotiations effectively. There is only one speaker, and no mention of Michelle Perchuk.
Dan, I really want to work with you. Thank you so much for the offer. Just want to be transparent with you because you and I have this kind of relationship already. That other opportunity that I thought that I can just forget, they won't leave me alone. They keep on making it more enticive. It looks like they really want me. That opportunity is closer to 200k. Now I know you said that that kind of number is out of the question, but here's what I'm asking you. Is there anything that you can do to inch me a little bit closer to that side note? Never say the number. You say the number, he's going to say no, it's dead. The idea is to give him the ability to go HR and say, listen, I got to give her 10k, I got to give her 5 more PTO days and I got to give her 15k sign on bonus or this lady is going to walk. So you're going to have a couple of things in your back pocket. If he says, Nikki had a conversation with the CEO, one said 175 is it, you're going to say, okay, I respect that. Are there any other categories where there may be movement? For example, throughout my career in the last five years, I've always had 25 PTO. I have kids, I have family obligations. Would you be willing to fast track me to. I'm joining as a senior executive. Would you be willing to fast track me to 25 days? He says, let me see what I can do. Say, would you be willing to do a sign on bonus? This is what I would be looking for. Last resort. Say, would you be willing to give me a budget for executive coaching? So this dance, have the stomach for it. This dance has started with them. He wants you there, you're going there. The question is you'll never have an opportunity to negotiate. At the inception when you know you're getting the ring, do some box breathing in and out, paper bag, you got this. But just use little minuscule movements to get more from them. If he's going to say no, listen, no, I can only do 175. Then he's not going to say no to the PTO days. So you got to get stuff from him. Don't give up all your cards. Don't say, oh, I need this, this, this, this. One at a time. Let's think like HR people think. He goes to HR with all this list. They'd be like, you know what? We have internal candidates. We don't need this lady. Because HR people, they're evil. You don't want. He's a new guy. We don't need the HR partners looking at him like, oh, you know, he's getting his own people in because they'll throw him under the bus. If let's say he can't give you the 187 5, he'll come back to you, say, Nikki, 185. You're going to say, Dan, that sounds great. Is there any way I could get five more days PTO? I never had less than, than, than, than 25 days. He's going to go back to HR. They're going to be like, no, we're not giving that. We never do this for anybody. And he's going to be like, listen, we just, you know, her number was 187 5. We gained him 185. Where can we give like we're not bunging on the pto. He's going to call you back, say they're not budging on the pto. Say, listen, do you have authority to give me a sign on bonus? No, I don't have authority. They already say no to that. Say, listen, what about a coaching, coaching allowance. He's going to say yes to something. He says no to everything except the 185. I still think it's a good opportunity. But you're going to know that this is going to be a very rigid organization. That it will be like pulling water from a stone. The way that a company negotiates is a direct representation of how they will be treating you. It's like if you want to know who you're marrying, you find out. God forbid when you are looking at your prenup, if it's not working out at the end of the day, use like the, the magic bullet. That's just going to put him down and that's going to be. That's that. You could only use that if you feel comfortable. I've had people use similar versions of this. The magic bullet is going to be. Dan, I'm sorry, I am coming across as I'm nitpicking, but I hope you can understand what me not working for nine months has done to my family. The company is not going to go out of business if they give you 10k or 12k in your base. What that's going to do is if they give it to you, you're walking in happy versus just neutral.
