VP of Engineering talks about working with Coach Michelle

A VP of Engineering discusses working with Coach Michelle Perchuk on personal development and interview prep. He challenges her with a metaphor about investing time wisely, emphasizing how each day's seconds matter.
Foreign.
What would you say were the three biggest takeaways from your time with Michelle and the coaching program? That's a tough one, I know.
No, it's not, actually. It's not a tough one. There, there's. There's more than three. And so when you start to assimilate, I'd love to hear you start to assimilate and work with Michelle. There are times when you should be your. Be who you are, but also understanding who you are and how you are in certain segments. So when you, when you ask that question, what are some of the biggest takeaways? Well, let's look at the takeaways as what are truly, what are we trying to accomplish? And so, you know, if it is trying to find that job, what am I trying to do? Well, you know, understand the roles, but what roles are there? And then how are those roles available? And so all that's understood. But let's, let's really talk about what is she coaching for? Is it just the role? Is it just the strategy? Or is it helping you also understand you in how you communicate, how you assimilate information, and then how do you associate those two, the assimilation and the controls to make the proper representation of yourself when you go into the first stage, second stage, third stage, how many stages in the interview process you are. So when you ask what are the big three takeaways, it's not just one or it's not just it. Think of it as the process that you're going through that you're trying to accomplish. And now we all are professionals in what we do, but can we improve? Well, you can always improve, but where are you improving?
Are you empathic?
You crumble? Are you, you know, and sometimes you think they stand out, but all of a sudden you realize after some coaching, you're like, oh, man, I'm not presenting myself truly as what I am and how I could succeed better in. In a particular scenario that we're discussing. So when you talk about that coaching, it's not just finding a job and strategically, oh, I look, I got a brand new job. Great. But how do you make that job go and how do you become better? Not just today, not just, you know, through the week, but the oncoming weeks and stuff. And then how, you know, like, in my case, I have usually several people underneath me. How do I help them to be better? So it's a coaching session that's not just about this one segment. There's a lot of people that you could recommend for a coaching program, but are they Going to be the ones that you want to. The coach is going to be frustrated with and never want to deal with. And so, yeah, I would be selective. And are there people just to. Yes, absolutely. But why simplistically that. How do you want to improve yourself? It's, you know, in every job search or even in a role. Excuse me. What are you doing? You know, let me just segue for just one second. Sure. Got a challenge for you.
Okay.
$86,400 are put in a bank account every night.
Okay.
Now if you don't use it, you lose it.
Okay.
Okay. Every night. So.
Okay. Every night. Wow.
So you don't touch it. It disappears. But there's 86,000 there the next night. That, that next, you know, it goes away, zeros out, and then it's there. Okay. So 86,000. Wow. You do really good, right? Most. What do most people do with that?
They'll probably try to spend it on.
Well, are they going to spend it wisely? How are they going to use that? How are they going to do it? What are. What are you. You're gonna. You're gonna take 80, 000 out immediately and go invest it each day?
That would be a smart tactic. Yep.
Or you're not even going to touch it just because. Oh, and I get 86, 000. I don't care. What would you do? What would you do with that?
I like the investment approach. Initially I thought I would just spend it on, you know, crazy things, but now I like the investment approach. Maybe invest it somewhere.
Okay, well, you take a percentage. We'll say you take a percentage and invest it, and you take a percentage and do some things and you, you itemize it where it's. Where it's smart. Right. But you're not going to just leave it there and not use it. Right?
Right. Right.
Okay, so then let me really challenge you. Every day, you get 86,400 seconds in a day. How do you invest those?
