Do I move the needle and just ask for more, or do I hold to the values for which I went.
Into the investment with? What got you here is not going to get you to that next step, and that's okay. But what are you doing and what investments are you making and what are you saying no to in order to accomplish the next thing that's important to.
You in your journey and in your life? Welcome back to another episode of the yes and Podcast. So this is going to be an interesting episode because I haven't done an episode like this before. This podcast is to discuss the yes and factors of both business and life. So, yes, you can have a company and doesn't mean you have to work 40 hours a week or 10 hours a day or whatever it is. You can design a life that works for you and you're allowed to enjoy it. And so I'm going to take on one of the trending topics that's going on right now, which is Mark Cuban and his sale of the Dallas Mavericks. And the question that I got asked today is like, what do you think Mark Cuban's doing? Is he running for president? Is he, you know, going to do this because it's a lifestyle choice and of course, because I'm all about work, life, alignment. That's a question that a lot of my clients and people have come up with to ask me of. Do I think that he's burned out? And my first response is no. I think he's probably, like, getting on the whole Mars rocket ship thing. That is not my final answer. That was just my funny answer. But the thought of Mark Cuban selling the Dallas Mavericks for, I guess it's an estimated like $3.5 billion. It's, we're going to do another episode on this, or I'm going to do another episode on this. On the point of it's not about the money. I don't think that it is about the money. And Mark Cuban is a very talented and brilliant businessman, obviously. And so the decisions that he's making are not going to be the most, like, not going to cost him money. And in the long run, he's looking at money.
Not as a driving factor, is my belief in that.
And I've heard conspiracy theories that he's.
Going to buy some dilapidated town in Texas, he's buying his own country. Like I said, he's running for president. I threw out the whole, like, he's joining the whole space race.
I don't think any of that is actually the truth. I'll be surprised if it is the truth, and you've heard it first here, these decisions, though, when you're making these decisions, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. Like, first off, he's not being. Being forthright, even with the, the how much the sale is. And that doesn't matter that he's making a private decision that, yes, it impacts everybody in the Mavericks organization, but the reasons why he's making this decision is probably around his own personal vision for his life and his family and leaving Shark Tank. And first, let's take a step back into the aspect that just because somebody is on Shark Tank or somebody makes X amount of money, it doesn't entitle anybody to feel like they know that person or judge that person for the decisions that they're making. And with that being said, I realize I'm recording a podcast episode dedicated to this entire topic. I'm not recording it to hypothesize or judge Mr. Cuban. That's not what I'm doing. I think that it's a really good.
Diving board, or launchpad, if you will. Not that I'm going back on the whole mars kick to a discussion about.
What drives your decisions. And so if you're asking my professional brain what factors I think that he is considering, what factors anybody is considering when they're making one of these major choices is an allocation of time, money, resources, energy. And I mean those, those are the three resources is time, energy, and money. And so when your priorities shift in life, those resources tend to shift as well. And so you can free up some of those resources, whether it's through your calendar, whether it's through your commitments, or whether it's through selling companies and assets or stocks, to be able to shift your resources to support your life's vision and the vision that you have for the next chapter, and this is something I'm going through right now is we're preparing to move to Southern in California is that is going to take some different allocation of resources than our life here had. And so that may look different. And when you're going through that, the things that you have to think about.
The things that you have to consider is what got you here is not going to get you to that next step. And that's okay, because change is, is a constant and so beautiful. And changing your environments, changing your priorities sometimes means that something that was a.
Beautiful relationship, such as Mr. Keeban and the Mavericks, it may no longer serve you in your life going forward. The other thing that I look at this and Consider is when I take on a venture, which make no mistake, owning a professional athletic team is a business venture, there are some things that I want to accomplish. And so I'll make a list of what are my intentions for starting this company, what are my intentions for going into this and making this investment. So if it's like a stock investment, I may want a certain amount. I have my own personal rule, and it's not financial advice. And so I'm going to keep it for another podcast of when I'm investing in a stock, no matter how high it gets, what I'm taking back out, and at what point I want to take it back out. And the same thing as if I'm losing money in that stock, I have those kind of rules and parameters. And so if I go and I buy the Indianapolis Colts or the Denver Broncos, and my goal for having that organization is to make X amount of money, make X amount of impact, or come home with two super bowl rings or all of the above, and I accomplish that, do I move the needle and just ask for more, or do I hold to the values for which.
I went into the investment with? And I think it's much easier to remain consistent with those values and consistent.
With being able to stick to the plan or evolve the plan rather than just keep moving the needle for needle's sake. And it has to also inspire and motivate me. And so if I accomplish the things that I said I wanted to accomplish within that company, within that business, within that investment, I either need to find new things that inspire me or new targets that are going to be aligned with my vision, with my life, or I sell that company, I acquire a new company, whatever that is. And so if you're asking me what he's doing next, I have no idea. And quite frankly, other than wishing him the best, I don't really care. Like, I think that that is his business and his life, and I'm just putting out positive thoughts around that. How that being said, the number one thing that I want to take away from this is how this popular story.
Can give you a time to kind of reflect back on your own life and reflect back on what's important to you. And so I've given you some things to think about in this podcast episode. Yes, we can follow celebrity gossip. And as long as we're consistently using that as a way to improve our lives, I think that's great. I'm the last person to find out about a bunch of these things. So if it wasn't for a bunch of my entrepreneurial friends asking me my opinion.
I wouldn't know.
I had to Google it before hopping on this podcast just so I could sound somewhat intelligent about what was going to be discussed. And I think it's a really great theme and discussion to have. Not necessarily what that particular individual is doing, but what are you doing and what investments are you making and what are you saying no to? Are you selling or are you passing on and moving from in order to accomplish the next thing that's important to.
You in your journey and in your life? And I would love to hear what that is for you. I'd love to hear hear how you liked this format or didn't like this format of commenting on a popular subject.
