A few lessons from a 37-year-old who is dating while also going through the sperm donor process. Number 1, always be honest with what you want. Don't waste your time on non-prospects. If they don't fit within your needs, they're not worth your time. Don't dismiss a casual thing if it meets certain needs. You just need to be really clear up front with what you want, what you're looking for from them. Be really strict on your communication, like don't talk to them outside of the time that you see each other, and have a time limit on how long you're going to engage in that casual thing. We all have needs. Stop being the cool, chill girl that has no boundaries. If they cross a boundary, tell them. And if they react poorly to that, you know that they're a dud. Don't make yourself smaller to fit inside their box. And I know this is going to give you a smaller pool of people, but that's okay. It's better to have a smaller pool or no one and focus on yourself, date yourself, and enjoy your own company and be completely okay with being independent than to be with an absolute dud. People always going to be judging you for what you do and what you focus your energy on. So you may as well do exactly what you want to do and let people judge you anyway.
