Chris Maddern - Is BitClout a Scam or not?

Transcript of a conversational YouTube segment (Chris Maddern and another speaker) discussing whether BitClout is a scam. Speakers debate dataset size claims, defend BitClout as a legitimate and increasingly decentralized social platform, and argue that value gained from audiences and content outweighs small monetary investments.

The very first day downloaded 400 gigabytes of data.
Well, actually it wasn't 400, it was like 85 at the time. I don't know how big it is now. I haven't. It's.
It's around 100. Yeah.
Is it 400 now?
No, it's. It's around 100. I was being exaggerated.
Yeah, yeah. But still it won't be, you know, that's, that's. Well, I guess that's a year plus the month of being officially public. Right. Or so. So I'm sure it's going to grow. But anyways, yeah, so that's really exciting. You're right, it is super exciting. And to see a program like this and open, sourcing it and making it available and I think it's super. Even more exciting that you're actually able to interface and interact with Mabim, which is one of the top developers on the platform. We see her post all the time and we see her commenting in discord and.
We can see her, I guess, committing in GitHub as well. All these things, it's happening. It's not like, you know, people are. A month ago it was like, this is a scam. You're putting your money in there, losing it. One of the things that I always, that I was like, I actually today I actually recorded a blog post that I was supposed to post tomorrow, which I'm. I might be delayed because of my deleted server. But, but, but anyways, that was about basically. Is bit cloud a scam? Right. That's the question people are still asking today. And my answer is the same as it was. It's like, even if it was because it's a social media platform, because you're connecting with people, because you're creating content, because you're engaging, because you're building your audience on there, even if it was pulled under, you would still have all that that you gained. Right. And that's worth a lot more than the hundred or two hundred bucks you invest in. I mean, that's how much it would cost me to put a sign on my front lawn that says, hey, come over and say hello. Right.
So that's such a Canadian sign. I love that. And yeah, my answer to folks is still the same. I think it's exactly the same as yours, which is. Is bit clap scam. I don't believe so. That said, even if, you know, tomorrow it turned out that, well one, even if it had intended to be, I think it's clear now that it can be something that's way way bigger. Not that I believe it was but even if now it's still the attempt was there. It's outside of the original core developers control. It is truly becoming a decentralized project. So even if the originators and I'm not suggesting this but were to have some kind of malice and want to pull the project away, we could go and continue the bit cloud project and the network and continue to engage with each other.
It's not, there's no, there's. It's. It's. There's no chance that happening anyways now. So let's. Yeah, let's not even put any more effort into thinking that. Right.
People still think bitcoin's a scam so yes, some people you'll never.
It's a big scam. Elon Musk said that he's not accepting it for, for, for Tesla's anymore and it took a 10%, 15% dip today because in a rough day. Yeah, whatever. Right. It's. It's a good time to buy something. Right.
So anyways, it's a buying day for sure.
Exactly.
