Confident Public Speaking: How To Sound Powerful And Confident

Dr. Aziz (speaker) teaches practical techniques to appear and sound powerful when public speaking by converting nervous energy into embodied power. He emphasizes activating the body (music, movement, big breath, a discreet fist ‘anchor’), rehearsing and steamrolling the first 15–30 seconds of a talk, and accepting fear rather than fighting it. The video is motivational, aimed at professionals and everyday social situations, and ends with a call-to-action to engage with his programs and comment.

You're going to learn how to become way more powerful in front of any group of any size. Hey, Dr. Aziz here. And welcome to another episode of the Art of Extraordinary Confidence. This is a show for you if you want to 10x your confidence in every area of your life that matters, including your public speaking ability. Now, most people are going to use public speaking and being able to speak in front of groups powerfully for their career, for your business, for ultimately the amount of income that you can earn, because as you excel in your career, grow your business, you can earn more income, have a bigger impact. So public speaking, super essential for that. Also, though, maybe a toast at a wedding, maybe speaking in front or sharing with a group of five or seven people socially. So it shows up in a lot of areas. But a lot of people, when they think about public speaking, they think about presentations and other things. So how to show up more powerfully? One of the most common fears around public speaking is people know their stuff, they know the material, they're prepared, and they're nervous as shit. They feel panic ahead of time, their heart's racing, they're pounding, they're like. And then they get up there and they're. Their voice is quiet. They sound more hesitant than they want to be. They don't make eye contact in the way they want to be. They don't show up powerfully. They're not dynamic, they're not certain in themselves. And then they get worried about that because they're like, well, if I don't show up powerfully, I'm not going to impress other people. People aren't going to like what I have to say. They're not going to believe in me. And you know what? In a lot of ways, that's true. I hate to say it, but it is because if we're uncertain in ourselves, then we're less influential, we're less persuasive because people are persuaded by confidence and certainty. And even if your confidence is you Know the uncertainty is not coming from, like, I don't believe in what I'm saying or I don't know what I'm talking about. Maybe it's just coming from you're doubting that you're good enough or you're doubting that your public speaking ability. But it doesn't matter because the person, the people watching don't know what you're doubting. So they might think, oh, maybe this isn't the best thing for our company. Maybe we don't want this. Maybe we don't want to hire this person. Maybe I don't want to buy from this person. There's something that uncertainty rubs off. So we want to be certain and solid and powerful in ourselves. In fact, what made me do this episode? A question from a listener named Vijay who said, hey, Dr. Z's. When I walk in front of. When I talk in front of public, I sound afraid. My voice sounds like I'm literally terrified. Can you please help me? I live in India. I cannot attend your class. Please respond. So for my boys in India and girls, I know girls, women watch this show, too. Shows for everybody. So how do we be more powerful? I mean, there's a ton here. I'm actually working on a program for this year about how to become a powerful, confident speaker. So there's going to be a ton that we're creating for that. So here's the short version, though. If you want to sound more powerful, you got to get more powerful. And the way to get more powerful is to use your body. Power doesn't come from up here. Power comes from here and your balls or down in your core power. Right, that comes from our body. So you got to get more powerful to sound more powerful. We've got to do that is you've got to activate your body. So what's happening is, I mean, we can go into the inner game stuff about you're wanting their approval, you're not seeing your strengths, you're not owning your value. That's all happening too. That's all deeper. That's a bigger topic. But short, quick fix is get more powerful. And the way you got to do that is you got to energize and activate your body. This is what I teach. Inside of confidence unleashed. Incredibly transformational. It's also what we do at all my weekends, so people really experience it on a deep level. But you got to change the energy in your body and activate a sense of power and intensity that will obliterate the anxiety. Now, the energy might still be There you might still be nervous, but you show up fully and powerfully with that nervous energy. It doesn't have the power to stop you or inhibit you in any way. When I go speak in front of a group, if it's a big group, I'll be nervous ahead of time. I gave a toast at a good friend's wedding. I don't know when that was. Maybe it was almost two years ago now, so maybe it wouldn't be, I don't know. I wonder what it would be like now. But right before my turn, there's like 300 people there. It's going to be authentic, vulnerable, heartfelt speech to one of my best friends. And the maid of honor was giving her speech and I knew I was next. And the whole time in her speech it was like, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. Waves of terror. And what I've learned is I just don't fight it, I don't resist it, I don't make it mean anything. Because if you make it mean something like, oh God, I'm scared, so I'm going to fuck up and oh my God, it's going to be terrible, I'm going to make a mistake. Then we're like, it's like if you got dropped into the ocean and then instead of swimming and keeping your head afloat, you just like thrash around like a freaking maniac and you drop like a stone, right? Swallowing water. So don't thrash. So what I did is I just breathed and focused on the sensations in my body and let the waves of meta terror just crash. And I knew that I was gonna crush it. You have an unweight like. Yeah. So here's the thing. Fear. Feeling fear in your body does not have to hold you back and it does not have to make you sound weak and scared and inhibited. You can feel fear and sound and be powerful. It's a helpful distinction because otherwise we think, oh God, now I'm scared, now it's all screwed, now I'm done. No, you're gonna feel fear. That's okay. There's tons of stories of performers, musicians, world class gold selling platinum selling albums, authors, speakers, athletes, tons of people who are just fucking barfing in the locker room before the game. Cause they're so nervous and then they go out there and they're the best player in the world. So fear does not equal failure. Fear does not equal sounding nervous and inhibited and weak. You have to be able to disconnect it. You have to be able to face your fear and do what scares you till fear holds no power over you. And the way you can, one way you can do that is to activate more power in your body. So here's how to do that. What I would do is before, and before I record these videos, before I do any sort of speaking, I get into an amplified, powerful state. So what you're going to do is you're going to go do this the morning before you're going to talk. Actually, I would recommend doing this every morning, once a day at least. Put on a song, wear some headphones, whatever. Put on a song that just pumps the shit out of you. I don't know what it is for you. I know what it is for me. It's usually something driving electronic, just a really full on punch to my ears with bass. Put that on and then just start moving your body and energizing your body. And then just for 30 seconds, for 60 seconds, go fucking crazy. Activate power in your body. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Right. Energize yourself. Use your body. Breathe in deep, jump around, get powerful, get fucking intense. And then when you're in that state, say stuff like, I got this. I got this. Fear's got nothing on me. I got this. Yes, I got this. You energize yourself. You empower yourself. And then when you're in that state, make a gesture, grab your fist, put your thumb in it and go. Breathe in deep. It's creating what's called an anchor. I go way deeper in that inside of confidence unleashed. Teach you exactly how to use that, how to fire off that anchor and use it whenever you need it. So what you do is then when you're about to go into the meeting or about to give your presentation and your heart's pounding like crazy, just sit with the feelings. And then it's right before it's your turn, as you're walking to the podium or walking in front of people, just make that fist. It's indiscreet. No one notices. Take a deep breath in. And then boom. And here's the thing, for those first 30 seconds, just go, just steamroll. Just don't like take any feedback in about how you're doing. I mean, you want to look at people. You don't want to do the first 30 seconds like this, but you want to look at people, but just like steamroll. Just go. So it can be helpful to like really plan out that first. Not even 30, the first 15 seconds. You know, you can prep and rehearse and do all the planning that you want in General, that can help if you're nervous, but especially those first 15 seconds. Maybe even rehearse those a lot in your drive or something like that, right? Or when you're at home. So let's say you're going to give a talk and it's a presentation for something and, and your first 15 seconds would be something like, you know, hey, thanks for coming out today. I'm really excited to share with you some things that are going to potentially be really transforming for your business. You know, I'm Aziz and I've been working with such and such company for XX years and the results that we've been seeing have been astounding. Now let's talk about blah, blah, blah. So that's your thing. It's your first 15 seconds. So say that, practice that again. Get that to the point where you can just like steamroll that stuff without taking any feedback in yet. Because if you start out like, hi, does everyone here like me? You're scanning around, you're looking, that guy's not looking at me. He hates me, you know, Then you're nervous because the fear is going to spike right when you start. That's how public speaking works. Write those first. You know, if here's the point that you're starting in time, here's your beginning of your public talk. The fear is actually going to start to build as you get closer to it. And then minutes before, seconds before, it's going to spike like crazy. And then when you first start, it's going to be totally spiked, totally spiked. And then it's going to go down. So you just got to steamroll through those first 30 seconds. First 15 seconds even. And you got this, Vijay, you got this. Anyone?
