Dr. Aziz argues that self-confidence is essentially believing in oneself, which stems from the story or identity one holds. Low confidence usually reflects an outdated limiting identity (e.g., beliefs formed in youth); to change this, one should update identity by repeatedly taking actions that disconfirm doubt, thereby building belief.

Most people with lower confidence don't believe in themselves. In fact, that's one of the more common definitions of confidence, right, Is just believing in myself. And so if you want to believe in yourself more, the first thing you must do is ask, why don't you believe in yourself? Because believing yourself comes down to just one thing. It's the story that you have about yourself, also known as your identity. And so if you don't believe in yourself, it's because your identity says, I can't do that. I'm not capable. I'm not enough. It's not possible for me. And the question I have for you is, why? Where did you learn that? What are you telling yourself? What do you see, see about yourself? The next question, is that identity current? Is it real, or is it really, really out of date? A lot of people I talk to have an identity from when they were a teenager and now they're in their 40s. You got to update that identity. And the best way to do that is to take action in the world and see what really happens. So defy the doubt again and again, and you will have an infinite belief in yourself.
