And it might not seem like an overwhelming, maybe you feel overwhelmed, but sometimes we don't even feel overwhelmed. We just feel not as powerful. We feel a little shaky. We feel a little like, you know what it is? It's like we're on defense in life and we're reactive and things are coming at us and we worry a lot. Oh, what if that happens and what if this happens and what if that happens? And I want to share five steps with you to turn that all around so you can feel first and foremost, I mean, you can get stuff done in your life, that's great. But what I really want for you is to feel powerful. And this relates back to confidence and self, a sense of empowerment of like, yeah, I can handle whatever life throws my way. And it's hard to think that it's hard to believe that we can handle whatever life throws our way when we're overwhelmed by all the stuff going on in our lives. So we need to tackle this. So let me share the five steps with you and a brief story as well as where I came up with these and why I'm using them in my own life now. But basically I noticed that I had this. In my, in my business, there would be a number of things that I would be handling and some things that I wouldn't be handling, especially the stuff that I didn't like or wasn't good at. Like really detailed, meticulous record keeping of receipts and, you know, mileage and tracking stuff for tax purposes, blah. So boring and so uncomfortable for me that I would just avoid it. And also things in our house like, oh, the dishwasher is making a weird noise, probably should get that fixed. And, oh, look, this door has got something broken on it. We're going to need to figure out how to fix that. Oh, I can't fix that. We need to get a handyman here to fix that. Right. And so all these things were piling up, and I was getting more and more overwhelmed. They were, like, picking at me. And all of a sudden, one day I woke up and I did the first thing, which is the first step of these. I said, you know what? I'm going to go on offense. So one is o go on offense. Instead of waiting for all these things to get to you, waiting for that problem, waiting for the dishwasher to break, which it did, by the way. Waiting to get an audit in your taxes, Waiting for that thing to say, you know what? I'm going to go on offense and decide that right now. So in your life, I want you to take the first step, which is decide I'm going to go on offense. And this could be about, you know, getting stuff done in your life. This could also be about building your confidence. So instead of waiting for someone to approach me or waiting for my dating life to somehow get better, it's like, I'm going to go on offense. I'm going to figure this out. I'm going to approach people or I'm going to go make friends or whatever it is you want to do. Go on offense is step number one, Right? Makes sense. You orient yourself to take life on. Number two is C. Capture and categorize. Capture and categorize. So for this one, you want to just start by just, like, brainstorming from that place of like, I'm gonna go do this, I'm gonna go on offense. Just write out everything that you want to do in this area of your life. So for me, I sat down and said, okay, everything I need to do to, like, get everything in the business really dialed in. And there's no rhyme or reason. It's just whatever popped out of my head. Oh, okay. We need to get better receipt records. Okay. We need to get mileage logs. Okay. We need to, you know, whenever we do an event from in a different state or something like that, we need to keep track of x, y and z there and just, like, having this big list of stuff. And here's the thing. As you make this list, you might feel overwhelmed. I sure did. I didn't feel great. In fact, it was like, oh, my God, it's even worse than I thought. Oh, and then this and then that and then this and then that and it's overwhelming. But this is part of the process. You got to endure that discomfort. You got to get through that discomfort to get to the other side. So that's capture and then categorize as you put it into different categories. So, you know, I had all this stuff I needed to do, and I made a category that was like tax documentation. Well, you know, a lot of this stuff is for taxes. So let's create a category called tax documentation. Let's create another category called legal and attorney work that I needed to get done for the business, contracts I needed to make sure I had and all that stuff. And then same thing for the house side of things. Well, there's the household. There's stuff for our family. There's repairs that need to be made. And you put these things. There's vehicles that need to be attended to, like oil changes and shit. So you categorize those things. So that's capture and categorize. That's step number two. And anticipate that. It could be uncomfortable to just keep going. Do not stop. Number three. This one is super important. S. Schedule. You gotta schedule stuff. So you got your big list. You got your categories of things. Then you have to schedule stuff. You have to schedule when you're gonna do certain things. Now, in terms of what you're gonna do when I think a sense of overwhelm can feeling like I gotta do all this stuff at once. Well, actually just say, okay, you know what? When we came up with all our stuff for the business and for our household, I was like, I wanted maybe six months to do all this stuff. Definitely over the course of 2018, I want to feel like everything's dialed in by the end of that year. But this is a long stretch here, so set a realistic time frame and then just pick one. Okay. So I was like, okay, I'm going to get the oil changed on one of our cars because it's, like, old and smelly. It's probably not good for the engine. So when am I going to do that? I don't ever want to do it. And I'll share the next two steps with you that help you be able to go do it. But I picked it in my calendar. I said, okay, next Friday after next, I'll set up an appointment with this place. I'll go there, and I'll get the oil change. So I scheduled it. So schedule either the things on your list that you're going to do or schedule. Schedule when you're gonna sit down and, like, map things out. Schedule like, okay, I'm gonna sit down and look at all my receipt management system and figure out my next steps. So that's number three is schedule. Number four is P. Persevere through discomfort. You gotta persevere through discomfort. So that initial capture list and even those first actions generally don't feel good. They're gonna feel really uncomfortable, man. When I was sitting down, I sat down with my wife, Candice, and we were mapping all the stuff for the house. It was like we talked for about 40 minutes and just wrote all this stuff down. And most of the 40 minutes, maybe 35 of them, I was like, so uncomfortable. I hate this. I don't want to do this. Just like, inwardly tantruming. But another part of me was like, look, we got to handle this stuff. I want to feel better. So persevere through discomfort. Anticipate a wave of discomfort and say, you know what? It's just discomfort and I want to get to the other side. And that brings me to the fifth step, which is I. Which is really going to help you get the perseverance, which is imagine what your life is going to be like when you got stuff handled, when this just runs. So for me, I sit down and say, wow, what would it be like to have, like, the tax stuff really dialed in? So there was no fear of, like, well, what if someone audited me? Or, you know, are those receipts kept track of? Well enough. Like, I don't even know. You see how much anxiety that can create underneath to have that unfinished business? So I was like, man, imagine what it would be like. Oh, man, I feel great. I'd feel relaxed, I'd feel powerful. I'd feel confident. I feel like I could take anything on in life. I wouldn't feel stressed about those things. I'd feel free and happy and excited. And I focused on that. And by focusing on that, I felt inspired to go take the car for the oil change or to go set up some meeting with my bookkeeper to figure out how to track things better, Right? So when you focus on that, it'll give you the momentum, give you the energy to be able to do it. So those are the five steps O which is the first step of the. These are just how to crush procrastination and get into action. So the first step is to go on offense. The second step is C capture and categorize everything that is you want to do in a certain area of your life. P. No S is to schedule it. P is to persevere through discomfort. And then I is imagine something better. Now I wish what it would feel like on the other side. Now I wish that spelled something cool. It doesn't really O C S P I ox P. It's my new system. Anyway, this is just what I've been using. I found it really helpful. I've shared it with some clients. They found it really helpful and I wanted to share it with you. So apply this in your life.
