Dr. Aziz explains why saying no is like a muscle that atrophies without practice. Start small: refuse an invitation, decline extra work, or set a boundary like "I can't do that till two weeks from now."

Do you remember those old anti drug commercials from the 80s and 90s when I was a kid? They were big and it just said, just say no. You know, just say no to drugs. I want you to just say no. No in your life. No to the requests that you get, the offers that you get, the expectations. Being able to say no. It sounds so simple. You might nod your head as you're watching that. Yeah, yeah, I definitely could say no. But nothing will change unless you take it on as a form of fitness. Oh. Saying no requires like a certain kind of muscle and if I haven't used it very much, it's not strong. So look for opportunities to lift a small weight by saying no. Can you say no once this week to something small? An invitation, Someone asking you to do something extra at work to say, oh, I'm not available or I can't do that till two weeks from now, just say no.
