Dr. Aziz says trying hard to make people like you backfires. Instead, show up as yourself, ask genuine questions, and accept that not everyone will like you. Paradoxically, this leads to better connections and more confidence.

You want to know the fastest way to make sure that people don't like you is to try to get them to like you. I know. It's so painful. It's so ironic. This seems to be how life is. I spent so many years trying to get, especially in dating, relationships, women to like me, but also socially and at work. I want people to like me. Want people to like me. I'm going to make it happen. How do you make that happen anyway? You, like, squeeze your guts and smile and nod. You try to be funny. Do you tell a story to impress everybody? But then people are actually kind of judging you because you're trying so hard? Okay, the whole thing doesn't work. Here's the way to free yourself and to actually have people like you more. You ready to stop trying? Trying. Stop trying. I'm going to show up as me. I'm going to be curious. Here's me and who are you? Let's show up with curiosity. See if there's a connection. See what I want to say. See what I want to ask you. See what you want to say. Let's actually see what spontaneously happens in this moment. And guess what? Maybe you won't like me. And if I'm okay with that, if you're truly okay that I don't need everyone to like me. I'm not for everybody. All of a sudden, way more people like you and you feel way more confident.
