Nice people spend so much of their time trying to save others. There's nothing against you. I lived this pattern for many years. Someone's hurting around you, probably very empathic, and you feel it. You're like, oh, I want to do something for them. I got to give more. I got to do whatever it takes to try to help this person, whether it's a family member, a friend, a girlfriend, a partner, someone you work with, anything. And it might seem like it's the right thing to do, the compassionate thing to do. And yet, how long has that suffering been going on in that person's life? Did it exist before you even came on the scene? And how many people can you carry on your shoulder? How long can you sustain that? And what is the cost? Does it burn you you out? Is to make you less available for your family and friends and other people? Because you're spending all your energy on someone who maybe is like an energy vortex. What if instead, you ask yourself, what do I want? What do I have to give? What feels healthy? How can I take care of myself? And then from that place, you give when it's reasonable and healthy.
