Dr. Aziz teaches two techniques to shift nervous-system energy and boost confidence in the moment: stand taller with deeper breaths, or activate a fight posture with loud voice and gestures. He argues confidence follows action toward a future you actually want, then pushes you to tackle something you've been putting off.

Hey, welcome to your weekly confidence boost. Today I want to share a simple tool that you can use right now to increase your confidence instantly and activate more energy, more power in your body and your capacity to do things. Because at the end of the day, confidence is a byproduct of action. You must take consistent action in any key area of your life that you want to develop more confidence in in order to build that confidence. Yes, you can work on your mindset. Yes, you can change how you talk to yourself. And all that stuff is important. This is why I teach that, too. And yet, you know, a lot of people want to sort of resolve the issue from the safety of their armchair or the bed. And you have to get out there and actually take the action consistently. Okay, maybe you know this already and I'm not saying anything new, but so how do we get ourselves to do it? That's the bigger question. How do I get myself to take the action? How do I get myself to take it consistently? Well, the consistency part is really going to be connected to a bigger sense of why you're doing it. What I would like to think of as a compelling future. I want to go do these uncomfortable things because it's going to lead to blank. What's that for you? I mean, more love, more connection, more sense of aliveness, more freedom, more adventure, more love. What is it for you? Right, so you got a. It's something that you're going towards. But then even still, even if we're like, I really want love, so I'm Put myself out there and connect with this person, or I really want to have this sense of power or accomplishment in my career, right? In that moment of needing to speak up, needing to step up, needing to take the risk, needing to put yourself out there, you know, and then we hesitate or we avoid, and then afterwards we're kicking ourselves and we're saying, ah, I really want this thing. Why am I not doing it? And then here's the problem. What will often happen? I hear this all the time with clients. Then they'll go into a story, oh, I didn't do that because I'm a coward, because I've never been able to do that. Oh, I've always had this issue because now it's this really solid thing that's always been there and always will be there. At least that's how the story goes. It's complete and total bs. But in order to change that, here's one thing you can do when you're at the moment of action, right? Your anxiety Your fear is typically the highest. And that fear can manifest as like, heart pounding, or it could manifest as like just tightness, constriction, not breathing very much, or desire just to get the hell out of there. Desire to avoid, you know, if you heard, you know what fear stands for? Fuck everything and run. F E A R. Fuck everything and run. It's like we just forget about all our dreams and goals and compelling future, all that nonsense. Just gotta get out of here. So what we need to do is we need to take control of what's going on in our nervous system. So we have the choice to be able to act. Now, there's two simple ways to do that, but the most important one is going to be to elevate your energy so that you have more power. Because here's the thing, here's the obstacle you got to overcome. When you're in an anxious state, you're feeling scared, incapable, unsure if it's going to work out, threatened. How much energy do you have? Well, you have a lot of uncomfortable energy moving through. You can feel really strong, especially if it's kind of panicky. But your power, your capacity to do stuff is low. So what if we elevate your energy? Here's the obstacle. It still stays the same. But what if we change your energy to go up to here? Now all of a sudden, do you see how you can just hop over that thing? Now? You have to climb this big wall. Well, how do we do that? Couple simple ways, but the basis is your body. The way that we generate energy is through the use of our body. Most people, when they want more energy, will reach for a coffee or a stimulant of some sort, and it doesn't consistently give it because eventually you just become dependent upon it. And then it doesn't really do much for you other than help you maintain norm. So how do we do it? The first thing is I want you to do, and you can do this with me, is you're going to stand up. So if you're sitting and you're feeling anxious, like, oh, I got to do this thing, you're going to stand up and you start to move your body around and just breathe. Fuller. It doesn't matter if it's in your nose or your mouth, just fuller, deeper breaths. What you want to be able to focus on is your capacity to breathe more deep. So you can breathe into your ribs here and then into your belly, into the sides of your body, into your back. And I'll even do motions like that where I'll kind of open up my chest. And then what you're doing now, you're gonna start to feel a little bit of energy moving in you. Now, if you're just watching me doing this as you sit, I encourage you to stand up and do this with me. Otherwise, it's just theoretical. And you're like, oh, neat. Yeah, maybe I'll think of that later. Or not. But if you do this, you're gonna get a taste of it. Okay? So stand up, shake your body out. Take a few fuller, deeper breaths in. I might start to walk around a little bit as I do it. And then remember, your nervous system, when it's elevated, has three options. You know what they are? Fight, flight, or freeze. That's it. That's all, basically our three options. And you can't really do combos of those. I mean, you're either running away or you're attacking something, or you're just frozen. Like, I'm gonna play dead. And hopefully like a possum. And hopefully no one eats me. So what we need to do is if we're avoiding and we're running away, then we're activating the. We're doing the flee, the avoidance. If we're just, like, paralyzed in the moment, saying, I should say something, I should say something, I should say something, and then we're frozen. What we need to do is we need to activate our fight, our attack. Now, it doesn't mean you go punch the person in the face that you want to date or talk to. You want to be my business partner. No, but what we want to do is we want to activate that power because that's what's missing from the freeze and from the flight. There's no power. It's the same physiology. It's a ton of adrenaline and cortisol going through your body. But what we want to do is we want to steer that thing into fight, which gives you a sense of power, which is like, bring it on. So how do we do that? You activate that warrior inside. You use your voice, your energy, and your body. So it's going to look something like this. We're breathing, moving around. You're just going to get. Use volume, use your gestures, and you're just going to say things that bring power and energy to you. Like, yes, here we go. Ready? Yes, yes, yes. And you stand tall and you're yelling yes. And oh, my gosh, that's unusual. I can't do that out in a situation. You do it at home. Do it that morning before you have to go to that meeting. Do it before. Heck, forget the meeting. But forget to sit down and do a bunch of projects at your desk that you're overwhelmed by that you're, oh, my gosh, I can't handle it. And what if something bad happens? You step up, shake your body out, and go, yes, yes, yes, yes. Can you feel that? Now, if you're just watching me, you're probably not feeling it. Maybe you're feeling something coming from me, but can you do it? Okay, we're going to do it one more time, and I want you to do it with me. Okay? All right? So stand up if you're not already standing up. This is your chance. This is your moment. So shake your body out a little bit. Take a full, deep breath in. Open up your arms. I'm opening up my back. My shoulder blades are coming together. Bring them together again, as if you're kind of like hugging something. And then out again. Okay, Then shake your body a little bit. And now, in just a moment, I want you to activate energy. You don't have to say yes. You could say whatever you want. You could say, I got this, or bring it on, or anything that helps you access that power. It's not about what you say. It's the volume and the intensity in your body and your voice. Okay, ready? One, two, three, go. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Now, stand tall, breathe, and just feel that. That's power coursing through you that is putting you up here so you can leap over that obstacle. Now, what I encourage you to do right at the end of this boost is go find some action and take it, because this is a place that you can get things moving from. So what do you want to do today? What do you want to do right now? What's a project you've been putting off? What's the conversation you need to have? What's something you've been avoiding? Attack it. Let's move towards it. Let's stop fleeing and freezing. Let's go fight. Let's step up. Let's access that power. You got this. All right. Thanks for being with me today. Until we speak again, we have the courage to be who you are, so know on a deep level that you're awesome.
