Dr. Aziz explains why seeking approval from others creates an emotional roller coaster. Praise lifts you up, then criticism or disappointment crashes you down. Building confidence from within keeps you steady regardless of what others think.

Do I allow my sense of okay to come from myself, or do I depend on other people to give me that sense?
If it's other people, it's a roller coaster of a day, of a week, of a lifetime, and you never get off. It's like, I did great today, everybody. Oh, phew, I made it. I got praise and acknowledgement and people think I'm great. But then the very next hour, the next meeting, the next conversation, the next date, next moment, we just go straight down and then it's like, oh, they didn't like me and I'm a failure and I'm unlovable and I'm unworthy. That ride gets old and we want to get off of it. So what you're describing is, I think, a much more stable sense of inner confidence.
Yeah, it's a shaky foundation if it's always dependent on other people.
