Dr. Aziz warns that excessive niceness is toxic, comparing it to sugar: pleasant in small doses but poisonous in excess. Over-niceness causes loss of self, resentment, health problems, and regret. He calls it diabetes to the soul.

Niceness is like sugar. A little bit of sugar makes life sweeter. Too much sugar apparently kills you on every single health metric, right? Gives you diabetes, makes your limbs fall off, makes you blind. It can mess you up. And niceness, a little bit of niceness that goes pretty good in life. Social gracing, a little white lie here and there. Too much niceness that's like diabetes to the soul. Instead of your limbs falling off and you going blind, your soul drops out of you. You live a shell of a life that you're meant to. You live in a cage. You get resentment that burns inside, causes health problems and cancer and terrible results in your life. You get ignored, you get rejected, you get overlooked, and you die with regret. So too much niceness is not sweet. It's poisonous.
