What Do I Do With Uncomfortable Feelings? Q&A

Daniel's meditation practice is bringing up grief and childhood pain. Dr. Aziz says that's healthy, not a problem. Keep going, make space to feel without fighting it, and let your body release the tension you've been holding.

Hey, Dr. Aziz here. And this is a Q and A video outside of my studio back there. It's where I work. Thought I'd step outside and answer a few questions. This question is from Daniel. Daniel says, hey, I've been doing the. Your peace process from your book Not Nice. And I was wondering if doing this will bring up emotions. And it's not the good kind of emotions. It's bringing up all the pain. I've been an emotional wreck lately and I want to apologize to everyone that I have ever done wrong. This also could be related to my dad. He could pass away any day. Or maybe the peace process is bringing up all these blocked off emotions. What are your thoughts? Thank you. So for those of you who aren't familiar, the peace process is the term that I got from a teacher of mine named Christian Mickelson. It's just a body focused meditation, a somatic meditation that gets you out of here and, and into your body. I talk about it a lot inside of not nice and basically everything else that I teach because I found it to be so powerful. And so my answer to your question, Daniel, and anyone who's wondering about this, feeling is good. Feeling is natural. Feeling is healthy. We want to feel more confident. We want to feel more alive. We want to feel more connected, more compassionate, better relationships, a better, more love and a better quality of life. More juice in our life. We gotta feel more. And most of us, because we don't want to feel any pain or discomfort or tension or anything inside of us, will just try to numb out, try to not feel. And my sense, Daniel, is you're not numbing out anymore and you're starting to feel. And so, yeah, you're going to feel things from your past. You're going to feel pains from your childhood, from growing up. You're going to feel the emotions that come with your father being about to die, which are going to be multifaceted. Lots of feelings. So the problem here is not feeling. And that desire to apologize to everyone, having strong feelings that come up. These to me seem like the awakening of your heart. So ultimately, I'd say this is really good. Stick in this process. Be with yourself. Create space for yourself. Slow down, give yourself some time, maybe 30 minutes every day to just really be with your feelings, whether that's sitting and doing it. I like to do it sometimes on long walks where I don't bring any headphones and I just be in my body and feel as I move, look around. So feeling is good. We want to, instead of turning down our feeling. We want to increase our capacity to feel without resistance and just let all of that move through you, because all the resistance is going to come from our head that says, this is too much. I don't want to feel this. And then we contract in our body, and we get tight, and we get pain, and we get blockages, and so just surrender. Relax. That's why I had surrender tattooed onto my arm. Says, thank you. I surrender. Because I needed to see it just as much as you and all of us do. So that's what I suggest for you, Daniel. Wishing you all the best. With your opening up, starting to feel more good. Things are coming your way. All right? Until then, may have the courage to be who you are and. And to know on a deep level that you're awesome. I'll talk to you soon.
