Dr. Aziz (speaker) asks viewers who the authority in their life is — themselves or others — and highlights how people often defer authority to friends, family, bosses, or even past bullies. He urges listeners to claim authority over their choices, values, and beliefs: take ownership, be the 'captain' of your life, and argues that doing so is the foundation of confidence and personal transformation.

Who is the authority in your life? Is it you? Is it someone else? That might seem like a strange question, like, of course I'm me. I'm doing stuff, I'm the authority. Really? Does it feel that way? Or does it feel like you're looking at other people all the time and maybe you're looking at people currently in your life? What do my friends think? What does my spouse think? What does my boss think? What does every one of my parents think? Or maybe you're looking in the past and it's like, well, this is what dad thought when I was young and I should be this kind of person. And they told me at school and those kids told me this when I was 12. And so I guess that's how it is. So maybe you're deferring your authority to some 12 year old who bullied you 25 years ago. That's craz. So when are you going to claim the authority in your own life? I am the captain of my ship. I decide, I choose. Yes, I can get inputs from others and support from others and ideas from others, but ultimately I'm going to choose what's right in my life. I'm going to choose what I believe, I'm going to choose what I value and I'm going to live what I value. And that's you taking full ownership of your life. And that's where confidence begins and your life transforms.
