Steve Harvey recalls how two furniture store owners in Cleveland gave him his first carpet-cleaning contract at 26 and later fronted his travel agency account when he started doing comedy at 27. He racked up $11,000 in debt touring but credits them with launching his career and has spent years trying to find Rich to repay them.
I was, uh, 26 years old, man. I was struggling. Mm-hmm. I didn't, I didn't, I didn't have nothing. And these people owned a furniture store in Cleveland, and, uh, they took me in and gave me my first contract with my little carpet cleaning company. When I became a comedian at 27, I didn't have money to travel. They gave me a account at their travel agency. And man, I ran up a bill like $11,000 just trying to travel and make it. Man, they helped me out. Hey man, I got money now, Rich. Been looking for you for years, man.
