In this brief coaching exchange, Jake Setterlun advises a sales professional who has shifted from highly personalized cold emails to a high‑volume, less‑personal approach and is now seeing a drop in responses. Jake recommends revisiting the "Purple Ocean" offer to craft a more emotionally compelling hook, and stresses the importance of maintaining deep personalization while scaling with AI. He outlines a practical workflow: set a daily outreach target, use AI to generate personalized content, and engage each prospect across multiple channels (email, LinkedIn, voicemail, Instagram, comments) rather than focusing on a single platform. The core message is to prospect the person, not the platform, ensuring consistent, multi‑touch exposure to increase reply rates.

Yeah. Were you getting responses when you were doing the personalization? Like at all or no?
Yeah, I was getting responses of like, stop, not interested, or some like, call me, like these things. But when I just go for the like 100 emails per day, I stopped getting any replies, like not even a reply of stop.
Yeah.
So I was just thinking today, so I just like, should I go back to more personalization? Because the clients that I signed, those emails were like very personalized down to the pinpoint.
Yeah, I, I mean, it's, it's both. I really do think you going through the Purple Ocean offer and reworking that a little bit, it's going to give you more ammo to actually have better conversations and it's going to like emotionally hook them in of like, oh, this guy's got something different. It's not just what everybody else is saying. So that's, that's gonna obviously help.
Yeah.
I wouldn't, I, I mean, unless the, the whole cold email automation thing, like there's so many nuances to it. If the personalization was working for you, and I, I tell this to everybody, like just do that. Um, set out a number that you want to do a day, use AI as much as possible. Okay. Um, but then instead of it being, hey, I'm gonna just send 20 emails a day, Go out and connect with that per— send 'em an email, connect with 'em on LinkedIn, leave 'em a voicemail, um, hit 'em on Instagram, follow 'em, message, you know, comment, say, hey, did you get my email? And instead of thinking just one, like you're doing prospecting on one platform and then another platform and another platform, make it that you're prospecting the person, not on the, like the platform. Yeah. So that you have a list of 20 people And you, like, on that day, you do as much as possible to get in front of that person no matter where they're at on the web.
Okay. Okay. I understand that. Thank you so much, Jake.
