In this lecture, the speaker explains that every person contains both masculine and feminine aspects, unrelated to biological gender. The masculine is described as the unchanging, empty void of consciousness—the witness that observes thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations without attachment, akin to the timeless part of oneself experienced in meditation. The feminine encompasses the ever‑changing thoughts, emotions, and physical experiences. The teaching emphasizes that the goal of the course is to cultivate the ability to embody this conscious, unperturbed presence (the masculine) while engaging with the feminine in intimate practice, creating a dance of polarity. The speaker notes that this concept will be revisited repeatedly throughout the year and from multiple perspectives to allow deep integration.

Everyone is a combination of masculine and feminine, just so that's totally clear. It's not gender-based, has nothing to do with penis, nothing to do with the vagina. Masculine and feminine, and we'll do our best to describe this in many different ways over the course of a year because it takes hearing it many, many times for it to really sink. How many of you here have sat in still meditation before? Like, just kind of as the witness? Good, so everyone. Perfect. So when you're sitting in meditation, you know that part of you that's witness to the thoughts, witness to the emotions, witness to the body? Like, you're observing yourself. You know that part in you? That part that feels kind of infinite. It's not attached to whether you're tired or fatigued or angry or upset. It's kind of like it's this empty space of consciousness. And the way to feel it is like, you know, when you were 6 and you can kind of imagine being 6 and then you were 12 or then you were 21. And even though your body's changing every day, your emotions are changing, your thoughts your thoughts are changing, the environment, the people in your life are changing, there's a part in you since that time that has remained totally unchanged. If you understand what I just said, raise your hand, sort of a temperature gauge. Okay, that's fine. So we'll go deeper into this concept as we go. Most of you are starting to grasp it, but that's what we mean when we say masculine. It is the void of consciousness, the unchanging void of consciousness that you are. Your thoughts, your emotions, your body. That's all the feminine, or part of the feminine. So I just want to lay that preface. Now, what we're doing in this book is we're cultivating skills to embody that conscious presence, totally unperturbed, breathing fully, no tension in the body, unaffected by emotion, unaffected by thought. And I'm like that empty void here for you. So I'm holding a container for your emotions, for your capacities, and that's the play or the dance we're doing around polarity. Everything else is the feminine. Everything else— her emotions, her movement, light. So we're working to embody that level of consciousness in an intimate practice while we're engaging the feminine. So that's a starting point. Some of you may totally understand what I'm saying. Some of you are like, hmm. So we're gonna keep kind of reiterating this, and I'll have John take a stab at it as well from another perspective. But that's gonna be the foundation of what we're working with here.
