Just got off work right now, heading home. It is after midnight, 7:18. It's my birthday. I wonder if the missus has something prepared for me.
Happy birthday!
Yeah, I'm so tired, honey.
It's even real flowers. I tried really hard.
You stayed up all night waiting for me.
What do you want to wish for, honey? Don't say it out loud. 33. I'll just take this piece.
Mm-hmm.
That's it?
No words? Just mm-hmm? Busy chewing. Busy chewing. That's great. Oh, it's great now. Got a word.
It's great.
All right, cat's here to have some too. She heard great. This is Cleo. She's a killer. Time to go to bed.
Go to bed.
Fresh from the barber, my boy Paul. See, it's going on 10 o'clock. Need to make some breakfast, let that digest so we can hit the gym. 40 grams of oats, a scoop of one of the best proteins on the market by Raw Nutrition, code J Page. Half a banana. And half a serving of peanut butter just to get some fats in there. One hour later. Alright, so I'm gonna do a voiceover here. I'm trying to give you guys the mindset of exactly what's going on through my mind. It's easy to toss on some music and just go through the workout, you guys seeing my movement, but to understand exactly what it is I'm doing It's just, it'll take this whole video thing to a whole new realm. Plus, it'll help me kind of explain and articulate myself better and trying to convey exactly what it is I'm doing. When it comes to my back workouts, I like to start with some type of pull. Here I'm doing a neutral grip pull. I'm really focusing on a good stretch. I'm not letting my shoulders come out of place, but I'm making my lats stretch all the way up, coming down, getting a full squeeze, full range of motion. One rep at a time. Add on another plate and same thing, we're gonna just go into failure. Nice easy reps, good stretch at the top, come down, squeeze. I like to do neutral grips— well, I like to switch it up. Sometimes I'll do overhand, underhand, neutral grips, it all depends. One thing to note is that when I come down, I like to try to push my sternum into that pad. That kind of counteracts the weight and your momentum that way you're able to really engage those lats when you're coming down and getting a nice good squeeze to maximize that squeeze. Next, we're going to get into the meat and potatoes of the back workout. I like to do some bent over barbell rows. This is a good warm-up here, at least for me, for the 45s, really focusing on that stretch, good contraction. I'm trying to stay as parallel as I can without my lower back suffering as possible here, really driving that weight up to the belly button region. Good stretch, good tempo. Control the weight. Don't just let the weight fall from your hands and all the way down to the ground and just get all sloppy and working your way up, making yourself look like you're at a 60° angle. You're, you're, you want to try to stay as parallel as possible to the ground to really maximize that back that you're working out here. Add on another plate there. Shirt had to come off cuz I was really starting to sweat here. I think I got about 12 reps. I was pretty much in the zone here. Nice, good, easy reps. I like to use the VersaGrips here because this takes all that stress off your forearms. That way you can really focus on that back. Next, I'm targeting that upper shelf here. I did 2 working sets with the 50s, and I believe this is my last set here where I'm trying to get as many as possible, really focusing on that upper back, trap, rear delt region. Really maximizing it, focusing on a nice deep stretch, holding that, making sure I'm not swinging, coming up with the contraction, and just controlling the weight. I think I did about 10 or 12, I can't remember. Um, then I drop, and I did a triple drop set here. Same thing, I did 50s, I did 35s, and then the 20s here. And again, just going through the full reps, full movement here, nice control. I mean, I'm starting to get a weak— I'm not coming up as high as I wanted to, but that's okay. I'm just really fatiguing the muscle out here. Nice easy pace. I'm not just gripping and gripping. Stretch, come up. There we go. It's failure. Next drop set. Now I'm really maximizing that weight. Got lighter, but it honestly felt as heavy as the 50s. I will say that when you do drop sets, it really does test yourself because you get so mentally exhausted. You got the music playing. But then you want to mute the music because you just really want to focus on your breathing and focus on the reps. Same time I'm calling myself, stop being a little bitch. You're being a bitch, Justin. Keep going, keep going, don't stop. One rep at a time. Yes. Next, I'm focused on some isolated pulldowns here. I did do some pulldowns earlier as far as neutral grip goes, but I really want to isolate the lat. Been loving these because I've been loving going for the deep stretch and then coming down and squeezing, especially with cables. Cables, you're able to use time under tension and have that constant tension going on versus it being a machine. They just felt really good. Just trying to fine-tune that right angle exactly how you want to hit your lat. So many variations. And that was about it. Nice little pose here. Legs looking pretty good here. Not in competition or anything, but just trying to maintain myself here. And that's about it. Posing, practice, see yourself in the mirror, record yourself, just watch yourself grow over time. It's all about learning, enjoying every moment of this because it's all growth, and every day is an opportunity to just become better and the best possible version of yourself.
Peace.
It's a lot difficult to try to record yourself working out, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to do a voiceover and just probably talk about what I'm doing throughout the workout. I also ordered some microphones, some wireless mics, which should be coming in in a couple of days. And, uh, they should work for the iPhone as well as my camera when I start using that. And I'll probably talk while I'm working out just to let you know what I'm doing. I'm trying to see exactly what's going to work, but I'm not 100% sure. In the meantime, eventually I'll start working out with somebody who I'll be recording and recording me, and we'll get better in depth and connected with the workouts. So I'm over here at National Mall because Casey got me a Gucci belt that is too big for me, so I have go and return it and try to figure out what size I am.
Your boy's getting a little shredded. I'm going to Hawaii in September, so she thought that my belt size was a 36 to 46, but it's not. Your boy's like a 32.
So Casey just called me. I got off the phone with her and she told me do not go into Gucci because they are not going to accept it. They sent me a shipping label and I'm going to return it back because I have to send it back before you get a new one. So, hmm, there goes my plan. But in the meantime, since I'm here, I ordered Casey a gift for Louis Vuitton, so I'm going to go pick it up since I'm here anyways. I've never been in Louis Vuitton before, but I walk in, they're like, do you want a bottle of sparkling water or do you want the still?
I'm like, uh, sure, yeah, I'll take sparkling. It was so just—
it was great. Guy Leon took care of me, excellent dude, super cool. So I got her gift here, I got my gift here that I can't return, that I have to mail back to then get another one.
It's funny that She gets me Gucci and I get her Louis Vuitton.
Mind you, I have nothing that— that's my first time ever having a Gucci product. It's just interesting how we are. Ah, so I'm gonna go home, smash a post-workout meal.
I'm gonna go hide her gift here, just make sure she doesn't see it.
Wife's calling.
Hey!
Hi!
Hi! So we're here for dinner.
We're going to be going to— what's this place called? Kawami for sushi and ramen. Ah, mainly ramen. We're here for the ramen.
I almost fell. Let's just make it into the restaurant.
The hell? One pair of pants later.
