Time Management in the “new normal”? {Freedom Friday Focus}

Kenny Chapman reframes time management as managing yourself, not time. He recommends picking three weekly priorities, blocking your day into chunks including free time, taking restorative breaks like an after-lunch walk, and checking in each evening on what moves forward.

Time management in the new normal. Kenny Chapman here, Freedom Friday. Focus. I want you to just think about your time management. Now, I am one person that says you cannot manage time. There's no such thing as managing time. You manage yourself, you manage your mind, you manage your thoughts, you manage your actions, you manage tasks, Right? So I just realized that after this whole mess of the pandemic and people working at home and all this stuff over the last kind of couple months, how is this showing up for you and your own time management? I want you to think about a couple of things here today. Number one, you've got to be intentional with your task list and with your plan. We talk about a three rocks concept when the clients that I work with, that we coach with the company I founded, Blue Collar, it's all about task management. And so what does that mean each day? What are three rocks that I really want to accomplish for the week? What are three major rocks that I want to accomplish for my week? But today I just want you to think chunking down to blocking that time. If there's three things I want to get done today, blocking the time for those and making sure that I'm blocking time for free time. At the time I'm recording this, it's shortly after lunch and we had just taken an after lunch walk. That's a block time to where I know I'll be more productive this afternoon. I know I'll be more effective if I take that time to, to be productive. Make sure you're blocking your free time if you want to make phone calls, if you want to do FaceTime, all those different types of things. Because time has a way of just kind of disappearing, right? We've heard a lot of people binge watching TV and video game binging and all kinds of different things as people worked at home and some people still easing out of working at home. Make sure you're mindful, make sure you set your intention, make sure you block your time and, and then make sure you check in and see how you did at the end of the day. Are there things that you need to move forward to the next day? How does that flow? How does that work? Be intentional, be focused and be great, my friends, until we talk. Make it a better than fantastic week and block that time.
