Learn from Smartphone Companies: How to Crush Your Launch

A short YouTube talk by Kimberly Crowe advising entrepreneurs to launch imperfect products/services (or talks) quickly and iterate using user feedback—drawing an analogy to smartphone companies that release frequent software updates. Emphasizes testing the market, collecting feedback, revising, and prioritizing action over waiting for perfection. Includes a call-to-action to subscribe and attend weekly Speakers Playhouse events.

What can a smartphone teach you about how to run an entrepreneurial business with a freedom lifestyle? Well, we're going to talk about that today. Hey folks, I'm Kimberly Crowe. I am the creator, leader of Entrepreneurs Rocket Fuel and the co host of Speakers Playhouse. And today we're going to be talking about what we can learn from some of the bigger companies that can create the freedom lifestyle that we want to create in our own business. So if you have a smartphone of any kind, I happen to have an iPhone. When I first bought this little buddy, it was a thousand dollars. And I went in and I paid my money, which many of you may have paid a lot of money for your device as well. When you go out and purchase that phone, you're getting it. The brand new model is absolutely amazing. It's absolutely fantastic. It's got new cameras, it's got new this, it's any of that. I can do these cool things. And that's awesome, right? And then about a week or two after you buy it, you get a little notification on your settings or something pops up and it says, hey, we have new software we want to upload to your phone to improve it. And you're like, yeah, sure, go ahead and do the update. And then about two weeks later you've been using your phone and another little pop up comes and it says, hey, we have a new update that we can put on your phone and it's going to fix some bugs and do some other cool new things, maybe add a feature or two. And you're like, cool. And you go ahead and push the update button. And then a couple of weeks or months later, another pop up comes up and it says, hey, we have some new stuff to add. Well, many of us are creating programs and we are just on the verge of launching them, but we don't want to launch because they're not perfect yet. So we can't launch until they're perfect. Right? Well, take a lesson and take a page out of a couple of really big companies out there that are launching programs, products or services without being perfect. Yet those updates come along the way because when they launch, they're going to go ahead and give stuff to the audience. The audience may be giving them feedback, or they may get feedback from their internal companies, or they may get feedback from their competitors, or something else comes up and they're like, aha, I need to improve it, I need to put out an update of it. I need to give a little bit more. Well, that's a lesson we can all take and Learn about the programs, products, and services that we are creating. So whatever you're creating out there, and you're like, I'm just on the verge of launching, but I'm not ready yet. My website isn't perfect. My email campaign isn't perfect. My video isn't perfect. I need to do these couple of things. First. I might need to do some more market research. Whatever it is that you think you need to do first, I encourage you, go do it now, now. And then put out an update, like, do a revision. And that's awesome because you can't find out what the market needs until you've already released the first one and done a little bit of a test market. Because your audience is going to tell you what they love about it and what they might want to see in the next version. Well, this is your opportunity to create something even bigger and better and more powerful. So if you have a program, product, or service, or even if you have a talk that you haven't given yet because you're trying to perfect it first, I encourage you, go out there and deliver it first. Then get feedback. Find out what people liked about it and what they'd like to see in your next version of it. And that is the lesson that we can learn from the smartphone companies on how to run our own entrepreneurial business and do it like the big guys do. All right, folks, I'm Kimberly Crow.
