3 Things That Have Made Us Successful (That Anyone Can Do)

Lori and Chris Harder share three principles behind their product Glossy: always be everywhere (omnichannel presence), always be experimenting (test-and-learn), and always be networking (collaborations). They show how they've applied these through events, partnerships with juice shops and gyms, paid ads, and podcasts.

I want you to think of a brand that you love right now. I guarantee you can go and find them on Amazon, on TikTok, on Instagram, in email marketing with texting. I bet they're at different events. I bet that they are doing collabs with a ton of different companies right now. And I want you to think of that when you think of your own product, especially if you're a personal brand or a coach. Are you tapping into all of these channels?
And we're back with another, another episode.
Of He Said She Said.
Can you believe that this is the last He Said She Said that we're recording at the lake house this summer. Like this summer went so quick.
It went so quick. It was also super slow for me sometimes during the week.
I was just gonna say, I'm so ready to get back to California. Like I, I have guilt around how excited I am to get back to California.
Well, I think we love the weekends here and the weekdays we're just working at a coffee shop or environment place. So you and I, we, we love energy. You and I follow the energy, we.
Feed off of it. And I can't have slow energy when I'm, when I'm in a fast paced part of my life. And this is like we come to vacation, all that. So like if we're not wake surfing and if we're not having a good family dinner, I want to be in.
A fast paced, awesome environment, big thinkers, fast paced thing. So yeah, it's great and we're ready.
But anyhow, summer flew by. Last one that we're recording from the lake house up here, we. What is your glosy tip? We start every one of these, he says, she says, with a glossy tip. What's your glossy tip?
I'm actually gonna just totally. I know you're like get your glossy tip ready. But I wanna know what you have experienced taking so much damn glossy because you're, you're like a three a day person. So I wanna know. You like kind of started the I.
Ain'T scurred to give a glossy tip. My glocee tip is this. Do a load loading phase for the first 30 to 60 days. Take minimum two a day, if not three a day. If you can swing three a day, take three a day. And you're like, of course he says that. That's her husband, you know, wants more of these. Sold. No, even back to Isagenics, even back to other supplements. When you take them, you have to do a loading phase in order to shock and awe Your system. This is the clean out phase. This is the buildup, the new supplement, the new nutrients phase. This is the get your system adjusted phase. I'm telling you, I don't care what supplement you guys are on, Do a loading phase for the first 30 to 60 days and it'll radically accelerate the benefits that you're hoping to feel from whatever it is that you're taking. So, like, you asked me about closely my skin, my eye spot, what do you call it? A sunspot that's gone away. How youthful my skin. People are like, you look so good. Do you get something done? I'm like, no, just still a regular dude drinking my wife's powder shit. But I drink it three times a day, digesting my food at night. The last one I always take is I chug it, you know, after dinner, between dinner and bedtime. And my stomach, I wake up much leaner the next day and I feel like I digested my food a lot better.
That's what I'm actually need to get on your level because you're crazier than me. Like, he takes it so I sometimes I'll forget, but he is every single night. And I'll already be laying down and he's like chugging his water and I'm like, oh my gosh, he's having another glossy.
Glossy for life. Hey, listen, it's easy when you know, you've got boxes and boxes of it at home.
You know, we're so lucky now. We didn't have that for a while.
Nope.
All right, so anyhow, you use it sparingly.
I love that. You turned the tables on me. I nailed it. That's my glossy tip. Do the loading phase. And don't forget, 25% off to podcast listeners only. As a thank you to you guys. Use code happy at checkout. Just type in happy at checkout. Go to get gloce.com, that is G, L, O, C. I get glossy.com, use code happy. Get 25% off as a thank you for listening. Now let's use that as a segue. Glossy's killing it, babe. Like, I'm really freaking proud of you. You had a record sales day yesterday. If we count sales that came from a non promotion, right? There wasn't a sale going on. There wasn't any gimmick going on. There wasn't anything. You had a natural record sales day for random people signing up. And you and I have gone down the rabbit hole a hundred times. Like, we're not special. We're not super duper duper smart. We're not dumb, but we're not, like, geniuses. We're not anything that is extraordinary other than we're consistent as hell. And there's a few things that have made entrepreneurship a really successful venture for us, regardless of what we were trying. And it's those three things that I kind of wanted to share with everybody, because everybody can do these three things. So the first one, Babe, what is it?
Well, I want to say what this came out of first is we were on a walk yesterday and talking about that with the sales, and you were like, what did it come from? And it's a funny question because, you know, it didn't just come from one thing.
But I thought you had a sale or something. Like, you had such a good day. I was like, oh, did you have a sale? Did you have a promotion? That's why I was like, well, where'd they come from?
But also, it's the awareness of. I was like, Because I can see where it all, like, for the most part, I can see where it all came from, with different codes and different links that were all being used. And I was like, babe, this is every program and every marketing channel that we have set up, along with two podcasts that just happened to come out that week. That it was all of the things. So it was minimum eight different channels and eight different actions that were big actions that were taken, that created that.
It sprinkled in from everywhere. There wasn't one magic bullet.
Yes. And we're turning on even more channels. And I want you to think of a brand that you love right now, and I guarantee you, you can go and find them on Amazon, on TikTok, on Instagram, in email marketing with texting, podcast sponsors. I bet the founder is on a podcast right now. I bet they're on sponsors. I bet they have affiliates. I bet they have five other things like that. I bet they're in different. At different events. I bet that they are, like, doing collabs with a ton of different companies right now. And I want you to think of that when you think of your own product, especially if you're a personal brand or a coach. And we are going to get to the three. But I want you to think about that right now of, Are you tapping into all of these channels? I know so many people are like, I'm not growing on Instagram and my business sucks. I'm like, well, what else are you on? Are you growing your list? Are you working hard to do all these things? And by the way with glossy, we have started at zero on a lot of these things. Zero. Our Instagram page started at zero. And those efforts of getting to 34k right now is from so many collabs and giveaways and begging for followers and shouting it out like the efforts have been insane to get it to where they go. So let's talk about the three. Let's start with number one.
Number one is always be everywhere. I don't care what your business is. I don't care if you're selling courses. I don't care if you're trying to grow a podcast. I don't care if you're selling a beauty skin routine you can drink. I don't care if you're selling downloads for a fintech app that you're launching. Always be everywhere. A lot of times we've called it omnipresent, but you just broke it down really, really well. I think people underestimate how simple it is to be everywhere on all channels. Now. It's not easy. It's a hell of an effort, but it's simple. Anybody can do this. And we've done this. We are on our podcast and other people's podcast. We are on Instagram, we're on Facebook. We're on, obviously, all the social media channels. We are behind paid ads. We are behind collaborations. We have always been everywhere, especially once we learned that was a superpower.
So speaking at events for you and I, we've.
Oh, yes, we've always been speaking at.
Everyone'S events, in person stuff. And we've done a lot of that for free. A lot. And there's a lot that we still.
Do repeat that because, like, we have our number.
Most of that for free.
Yep.
And it's. And we still do most of it for free if it is aligned with what we are selling and we have an ask that goes along with it. Now what? We have gotten the right to ask for different things. Like, hey, if I come and speak, can I have my product there? Or can I have a booth in the back for free? Because we've spoken so much for free that we've built up our reputation around that.
Yeah. But even if you don't have that ability right now, instead of being like, oh, yeah, I'll speak, it's $2,500. Oh, yeah, I'll speak, it's $1,000. Oh, yeah, I'll speak, it's ten grand. No. Don't you realize that's holding you back from being everywhere? You should wanna be in front of someone's crowd of 50 or 100 people. And then you should want them to to put you in front of their social media crowds because you said something great. And then you should want their social media followers to click share because you said something great. Look at the trickle down effect, the ripple effect of saying, yeah, I'll speak there for free, I'll come serve. Instead of maybe them saying, oh, sorry, that's not in our budget right now. Because you were so insistent on getting.
Your number, I wanted to take a.
Minute to tell you about Pin Generator. So if you guys listen to my recent episode that I had with Jenna Kutcher about Pinterest, it was one of my most listened to episodes. You guys, not only is Jenna Kutcher freaking awesome, but she's teaching all about Pinterest on this particular podcast and she talks about how it's not just a social media platform, it's a search engine. And she talks about the importance of using it to drive traffic to your website, your offers, your podcast, and so much more. And that is why I'm so obsessed with Pin Generator. It's a tool that is going to make it easier for you to create content for Pinterest. It can scan any website URL and then generate ready to go Pinterest pins using the images and content from that URL. And best of all, you can create your own dynamic Pinterest templates to suit your brand perfectly. And I'm telling you, whatever you create templates on and whatever you systemize is not only what is going to get repeated, but it's what you're going to get better at. So you can check out Pin generators@pingenerator.com forward/earn. That's pingenerator.com forward slash earn. They have awesome AI features that make creating unique Pinterest content a breeze. Again, you can use Code earn and get 20% off any of the plans this week. Only, you guys, when I'm telling you that Pinterest is a whole other avenue that so many people have forgotten about, it will absolutely blow your mind if you go and listen to that podcast. But go and check out pin generator.com forward/earn and this is going to help you make the easiest content for Pinterest. Okay, let's get back to the show.
That's why a lot of times too, if there's an opportunity for photos, you guys stay after. Yes, because you can either get uploaded while you're speaking and a lot of times the crowd doesn't necessarily upload if they're not an uploading crowd or they weren't told to do so, meaning uploading to social and getting tagged where that's really where the payoff will also come from. So what happens is I try to see if I can stay after four photos, which is where you're also going to get tagged a lot and you're going to be exposed to. Now, even if you're talking to like, you know, a group, a small group of 20 people or 50 people, think of that times all of their social networks if you're tagged. So it's like, how much juice can you get out of always being everywhere? Maximize it. And I want to point out, you know, when I said all the different channels in the beginning that your favorite brands are on or that glossy is now on, this didn't happen all at once. And by the way, glossy is not on all those channels yet. Like, we're not on TikTok. TikTok yet. Because number one, we had to figure it out. Number two, we need to work up our budget for that. It's going to be a big spend for us to go and do it the way that we want to do it.
So, like, true TikTok shop.
Yes. And when you think about even you and I, Chris, like we did, we did organic social at first, and then we invested in email marketing and then we started to learn a little bit about ads. And then we started to learn about, you know, what does it look like to invest a little bit more over here, over there so it doesn't happen all at once. You got to start on one channel, you make some money to invest in another channel.
Yep. Amen. So the second one then, if the first one's always be everywhere, second one is always be experimenting. We have been the king and queen of trial and error, with an emphasis on error. But it's because everything to us is an experiment. Hey, why don't we try running ads on LinkedIn? Oh, that didn't work. But posting does. Oh, let me try running ads on Google. And that works for this business, not for us. But we're always willing to throw our hat in the ring and give it a shot. Experiment, experiment, experiment. Expect to fail on your way to finding those few things that really crack wide open for you. But here's the problem. People might hear this, like, of course you'll always be experimenting. Yeah, but you're not doing it. You hear something might work, but you don't try it. You hear someone's making money by doing X, Y and Z, but you haven't yet done X, Y and Z yourself. And I don't know why, I don't know if you're not making a priority, I don't know if you're afraid it won't work for you. I don't know if you don't want to spend the money. I don't know if you want to take the time to learn it. But until you start experimenting with every possible way to get your product or service in front of other human beings, you're going to be missing out on lots and lots of sales.
And there are a lot of experiments that you won't actually know if they're giving you roi. So to talk about glossy right now, I'm gonna go speak at a lot of different events where we're also gonna have glossy present. We're gonna give some free swag if they sign up on subscription while they're there. But we also are doing some different pop up events. And you know, I've also spoken in front of a ton of different audiences that didn't feel like when I gave an offer they signed. Well, it didn't feel like it. Cause they didn't sign up, you know, in front of 10,000 people. And we had like 10 signups on something. And here's the thing, it's not that those things are not like giving you direct roi, it's also long game. So yes. Did I learn that that particular event that I spoke at with 10,000 people with zero or hardly any signups was maybe not a fit? Yes. But also through the years people have contacted us and bought some pretty high ticket things that said, I saw you at this event. So even when you think something's not giving you direct roi, it's almost like you have to keep doing it to be in front of new crowds and be in front of people and try new things and know that it's about being like out there and being omnipresent.
We're going to have to do this with furlough when we launch. Right. Because unfortunately most of the main channels that you would do paid advertising on, they don't allow short term loan companies, so meaning anything less than 90 or 180 days typically to loan on them because they're afraid that they're like payday loans and those types of things which can sometimes be predatory. So they have these blanket policies. So we can't do Instagram ads, we can't do Facebook ads, we can't do Google Ads, we can't do the traditional things that are easy that we've Already cracked the code on. So when I say always be experimenting, we're going to be experimenting with Reddit blogs and there's tons of Reddit forums where they literally have rooms where you can lend to each other. So we're going to experiment with how can we infiltrate those types of Reddit rooms. Same thing with gig economy workers. We want gig economy workers of all kinds to be the ones who are trying to help through borrowing. And so we're going to look for gig economy worker influencers. They have them. It's a thing. They have huge blogs, they have podcasts and sponsoring their efforts to talk about furlough. So it's going to be an entire throw it against the wall. Sometimes not. You can't attribute your sales to anything. Like you just said, sometimes attribution is not a thing. But we're going to throw it against a million different wal to see what sticks, what doesn't, instead of taking some of the more traditional channels. But guess what? We're used to experimentation. Always be experimenting. That's why I'm not freaked out by it. And then third one is always be networking. And I know you hear us talk about this all the time, but damn it, this is how number one comes into fruition. It's easier to be everywhere when you have a network full of people that'll help put you everywhere. It's easier to know what to experiment on when you have a network of people who've already done the experimentation for you.
Okay, I'm going to use just some of the things that I'm doing right now with Gloce and it's. I'm collabing with different workout gyms, I'm collabing with juice shops, I'm collabing with anything kind of like wellness type of business. And so you and I came to Green Bay for the summer.
Yep.
And I was able to, in one week, create a collaboration with one of the best juice places here.
Shout out to Bonafide.
Shout out to Bonafide Nicole, who's incredible founder, awesome founder. And I was able to create that collab in one week because last year you and I were like, who is the, like, cool entrepreneur behind this thing? Like, we want to meet them. Let's go out to dinner with them. And so we randomly figured it out, met them, and asked them to go to dinner. So now we created this awesome collab that was so insanely successful that I can go use those numbers now that in one week we sold out to get other collabs to go and get other collabs. Now, the second collab, we are collabing with Kaleidoscope in Arizona, which, you guys, if you are in Arizona in the next couple weeks, we are doing a really cool refresher collab, Glossy and Kaleidoscope, that you can go and get freaking delicious, fresh juice. You guys. It's going to be like the Summer Glow Deep Bloat drink. You're going to love it. It's amazing. But shout out to Brooke of Kaleidoscope, because her and I had connected and she did a podcast with me. I'd connected with her before that as well. She's insanely brilliant, incredible entrepreneur again. But because we were already. I had already networked with her. We were already friends. How easy was it for me to go in? Not cold. Imagine if I went into this juice shop without even knowing and, like, asking who the owner was, meeting them for the first time and saying, hey, do you want to do a collab? There's no know, like, and trust there. It would take this person a long time to go like, well, you're actually giving me a job. Because now I have to go, like, learn about your product. I kind of have to go and figure out who you are. I don't know if you're skeezy. I don't know if you're going to hold up your end of the bargain. I don't know all those things. So this is why you always want to be getting to know as many people as possible. Because when you have something important, too, it's like her and I can now go and do this amazing collab that's mutually beneficial together. We're going to expose each other's brands to each other's people. And it's quick. It's been a amazing. It's been incredible. We're having fun. We trust each other, and we can go off from here. And so there's so many people right now in my network that I'm excited about collabing with now, because I'm like, I already have these relationships, and now I have this product that I can just kind of plug and play. Now that I have, like, these two collabs down, I can take this framework, I can show evidence of it now, and go to my other friends in my network who have something similar.
Yep. I love it. So, guys, those three things, all of you can do it. It is so simple. First one, always be everywhere. Second one, always be experimenting. Don't just rest on one thing that's working. Third one, always. And I mean freaking always be intentionally networking. Matter of fact, quick shout out to our networking event for advanced networkers, the Dinner Series. I'm not even going to give you guys a place to get on the waiting list. You have to go hunt it down yourself. But I'll tell you, the next one is coming up in November. You're going to want to be there.
Property.
Can't say what it is.
I know, but it's our favorite property.
I know. Like we go there for staycations and dates and anniversaries. It's incredible. Yeah, but you can't say what it is. Anyhow, we've provided a forum for you guys to do that. Feel free to throw us a DM if you're interested in going. Happy to send you a link to get on the waiting list. I don't know that there'll be all that many spots left available for this one because it's such an intimate setting where we're going to. But always be doing those three things. Always be everywhere. Always be experimenting. And always be networking.
And always be networking. I know we gave you Dinner Series, but we also have a couple girlfriends in business spots in September 28th in Arizona, in Scottsdale, Arizona. So I literally think I have six left.
No, you don't even have that many left.
So you guys have to go check that out. Girlfriends and business dot com and you can come and get the Juice collab at Kaleidoscope.
Oh my God. Kill all the birds of one stone. Okay, guys, thanks for listening. We always love to appreciate you and we're always cheering you. Function.
