A short conversational excerpt from a Lori Harder YouTube video about combating negative self-talk and becoming one’s own cheerleader. Speakers describe concrete tactics (speaking "nope" aloud, slapping the back of the hand, mirror affirmations) and note frequency of practice ("hundreds of times a day") and improved outcomes over time.
I find, like, the negative self talk.
Comes in a little louder all the time. I'll literally say.
Nope out loud.
Like, sometimes I'll slap the back of my hand and I'm like, no, stop it. Like, is the observation, like, stop sabotaging yourself.
It's crazy, though.
In the beginning, it was so frequent. Sometimes I'd have to do it, like, hundreds of times a day. Is it a lot less now?
It is a lot less now, but I also say.
A lot more positive.
Every time I go buy a mirror.
I'm like, you f ing badass. Like, like, every time. You still do that? I'm constantly doing that. Like, I just did that when I.
Went to the washroom. Like, you're here for a reason. Your voice matters. So I try to override it before I get it.
But don't get me wrong, this morning I woke up and I'm like, what.
Am I even doing here?
I think they can look at someone like you or someone like me or someone who's out there doing it. They literally think, oh, wow, they're cool, confident, have it all under control. It couldn't be further from the truth.
