Building My Dream Gym from Scratch (Full Story)

Mark Ottobre shows the demolition phase of Enterprise Fitness, a warehouse conversion that started in December 2020. The interior is stripped to red brick, the old roof is gone, and next comes a new steel roof, concrete slab, and shop front. The gym will have three core zones: machines, a track, and free weights.

Bought this, you could see it was a warehouse and it kind of had more workability than it does now. Like, we're literally going to start all over again. I think that's somewhat metaphoric for when people come into Enterprise, they want to change their lives and they have to reshape everything. And that's what we're doing here with the building, is we're reshaping the infrastructure, the whole structure in which we conduct ourselves with, by tearing it down to create new. Let's get things rolling.
What's up everyone, Mark Ottobre here, and I'm at actually the new Enterprise Enterprise Fitness. Obviously, things aren't ready to go right now, but I've been looking for a bigger property for Enterprise Fitness pretty much ever since I moved back in 2013 to our current location. What you see here is the reconstruction, the renovations of this building. I actually purchased this building, and everything you see is going to be redone from the walls. We're going to have this sandblasted, it's a beautiful red brick. To show some elements that we're going to be using in this building is brick, metal, and wood. We've got these beautiful trusses up here, obviously wood trusses. So we want to highlight that. So when you come in, it has really that open feel. It's got that beautiful glass glazier pattern at the top, which basically that once we clean it up, there'll be some nice natural light through. We'll have some nice natural light coming through the timbers here as well. So this atmosphere, I really think this is going to be a great spectacular training environment for people to come in. As I map it out, like when you walk in, we're going to have the reception flash bang in the center. There's going to be basically those 3 areas which people love about Enterprise, which is the machines, the track, and the free weights. Our racks will probably go on either side here with it flush into the floor with the platforms. We have our bathrooms up the back, office, assessment room. It's gonna be amazing. And I'm looking forward to having all of you come with us on this journey and doing a video, a blog, blogging about the journey from the sandblasting that we've gotta do, the roof reconstruction. Once we pull the slab, getting the bathrooms up and done. Come with us on this journey and we will show you what's happening and the evolution. 'Cause this is what it is. It's the evolution of Enterprise Fitness.
It's the evolution of me in my career as a personal trainer.
And I hope to see you all very soon once this project is completely complete, and more importantly, training hard in this facility. See all y'all soon. Ready, now we're in the next phase of the refurb slash development of the new enterprise. So this is the demolition phase. We've just finished the demolition phase. We've completely stripped and gutted this building. We've gotten rid of all the render and crap that was on the walls, sandblasted it. Now it's showing this beautiful, nice exposed brick. From here, the next stage is we're going to redo the roof.
So the roof is going to get redone.
I'm going to put the air conditioning units in. After that, we've got to demo this floor completely, get rid of the floor and lay a completely brand new floor. And then after that, then we're going to have some fun with all the new bits and pieces that we're going to be able to fit in. What up guys, I'm at the new Enterprise property we're developing. You can see the roof is off, so the roof has come off. So the next steps here, so we've demoed everything, gutted the building, now it's time to put a new roof on. So all these trusses, and not the trusses exactly, But the beams, they're all going to get replaced.
Obviously all the, you know, brand new Colorbond on top of the roof.
So we're going to have a brand new roof. So we have, and this is probably to be expected when managing a pretty big project like this in development, we've ran into an issue. And the issue is, so the roof is supposed to go on. So all these beams that you see are going to get replaced. Then we're going to put the roof sheeting on. Roofer comes in, says, Mark, I can't put any flashings to keep the rain out on that back wall if he drills in. The wall's going to crumble. So you can see how the wall kind of goes in and then out. So yeah, there's, there's obviously been damage there. So the bottom of it is fine, like below the roller door it's all fine, but above is where your mortar's come off and there's that damage coming in. So we're going to need to fix that.
So welcome to the new Enterprise Fitness. This is the site. I got this place 2020 December. It's been 3 years in the making, a lot of headaches and a lot of issues. So the update on this is we have now completed pretty much all the demo work. We still got to till out that soil but what's going to happen from here is we're going to put down a brand new slab so it's street level. We're going to rebuild that back wall, uh, we're gonna put a completely new shop front in, we're gonna put a roof with steel trusses, and it's going to look quite nice with much higher pitch roof than what it was. It's all going to be made out of a steel frame. So there's a lot of work, there's a lot of work to still be done, uh, obviously, because literally where there's, there's nothing here, it's literally dirt. We are standing on dirt. So this is kind of in— see, we've lowered the slab. Was actually quite thick and quite high initially. You can see where it was. So we've lowered it quite substantially, which is going to make it nice and street level. So yeah, there's a lot of work. There's a lot of work to be done. What are we today? What's the day today? The day today is November— there it is— November 18th. So we're not talking shit. November 18th, 2023. And this is present day. This is kind of like, I don't know, a low moment, but also the start of something, if that makes sense. So it's kind of, you know, you have this vision, and right now we're so far away from where this needs to be turned into.
But I suppose the only way is up from here, hey?
Unless it burns down, in which case we're all fucked. There's nothing to burn, so not that fucked.
