A bodybuilder placed last in his first 2004 competition, then finished modestly by 2007 before switching to strongman. He credits that early humiliation with teaching him ownership and self-reliance, which later drove him to build a business.
I did my first bodybuilding show in 2004. It was a severe experience, and coming last was very, very humbling. And then the next year I competed again, competed again in 2007, did a lot better again, and then competed eventually in strongman. And I always think, I reflect on what if I came first that day? There probably wouldn't be an Enterprise if I came first that day. So I look at that and go, what is the silver lining, the blessings? It was that early event of challenge that motivated me and catapulted me to go, you need to take ownership of this. No one's going to do it for you.
