Grass-Fed Beef and Raw Milk — Worth the Hype?

Maximus Mark argues grass-fed cows produce milk richer in CLA and nutrients than grain-fed alternatives, and that pasteurization destroys these benefits. He cites Weston A. Price's research and the Hunza tribe's longevity on raw milk, and calls for legalizing raw milk sales in Australia.

Hi, it's Maximus Mark. And a little while ago I wrote an article on milk, basically saying that commercialized milk is, for lack of a better word, the devil. No, but really, seriously, commercialized milk is very bad for you. Now, let's just take a look at milk for a second. Now, it is a very heavily processed food. Milk isn't the same product that it was 50 years ago, 10 years ago, or whatever. It's one of those foods that is continually getting worse. Now, the reason for that getting worse, you've got to look at where the milk's actually coming from. Now, there's two types of cows. Obviously, there's more types of cows than that, but let's oversimplify for a second. You know, there's your grain-fed cows, which are basically your commercialized cows, and there's your grass-fed cows. Now, grass-fed cows, generally, they're happy cows, okay? They're organic, they're living the way they should be, and they're eating a natural diet of grass the way they should be. On the flip side, you have these grain-fed cows. What really annoys me is when you walk into the supermarket and Costco, they have it on the label. If you ever go to a Costco, they have a big label that says grain-fed cows. If you go into a restaurant, it says grain-fed beef, ribeye, whatever. Now, a lot of companies are trying to fool the consumer to pretend that grain-fed is good for us or grain-fed is good for the cows. They're trying to, it's almost like a spin doctor's come in and tried this marketing campaign to make the public believe that grain-fed cows is the way to go. Well, it's not. Grain-fed cows are terrible. We want grass-fed cows. Grass-fed cows are definitely the way to go. Now, all commercial milk, like this one here, it's gonna come, the milk's gonna come from grain-fed cows. So you gotta remember that, number one, you've got this, you're starting a milk behind the eight ball. So you get this product that's from, from an animal that isn't eating a natural diet. Now, when you change the diet of an animal, what happens? Well, the molecular structure of the food that it produces also changes. I mean, I'll compare it to humans. Now, if we have two groups and two students and we give one student, you know, refined sugary crappy foods, soy, no meats, no vitamins, and we get them to do, you know, a performance test and we give the other one a really fantastic diet full of vegetables, lean, really good meats, lots of fats, lots of vitamins, and we get them to compete against each other. They do the both, they eat the way they eat for 6 months. You know, who's going to win? Well, obviously the one who's eating the nutritional powerhouse diet is going to kick the one who's eating crap. You know, he's going to kick his ass. Now that's exactly the same what happens with our animals. We really need to look at the quality of the, the animal, how it's being kept, and the quality of the food that it's going to produce. Now, this isn't only true for the milk that it produces. This is also true for the meat that it produces. You know, there's definitely been samples that have been taken from milk that have shown that grass-fed cows have a higher CLA content as well as a more full spectrum of vitamins and minerals and, you know, other goodies like enzymes and good bacteria in our gut compared to the commercialized cows that have been fed grain. It's changed. It's altered. It's not as good for us. The other thing that you've got to really look at commercialized milk with the homogenization and pasteurization is that when you are pasteurizing milk, you're basically boiling it for 20 minutes at a degrees of 60 degrees Celsius. So it kills everything that's in the milk. Now, you know, regulators, they're funny people. They want their job to be as easy as possible. So you've got to think of a regulator that, you know, the best analogy I've ever heard is A regulator wants the road to be straight. If there's a turn in the road, it's a pain in the ass. So they want the road to be straight. It's easier for them to say all bacteria is bad than for them to differentiate the difference between good bacteria and bad bacteria. Now that's what's happened with milk. They say, you know, all bacteria is bad. You've got to kill everything in the milk. And it basically renders that product completely useless and void of nutrients. So, you know, my question to you is when you, when you go into the supermarket, you see milk with things like added vitamin C, added vitamin D, added calcium. My question is, if milk is so high in calcium, why are companies needing to add calcium to milk? Isn't it supposed to be high in calcium? Isn't it supposed to be high in vitamin D and C? Well, it is, but when you pasteurize and bastardize a product like milk so much, it's void of everything else. That is why I really don't like commercial milk. On the other hand, you know, and there is the whole argument that humans aren't supposed to drink milk. Look, I don't think I buy that argument so much, but I do think tribes, I do think we can definitely consume milk as long as it meets the conditions that nature intended. Now, what milk am I talking about? Well, raw organic milk. Now, I know some people are going to say, well, it will spoil and it will go off. Well, I've got news for you. You know, there's been more outbreaks of commercial salmonella in commercial milk, of salmonella and E. coli, than raw milk, because if raw milk goes sour, you can still actually drink it and it's still quite beneficial for you. I mean, let's look at our tribes, the native tribes who, you know, in Weston Price's book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, he clearly showed that those tribes flourished on raw milk and they had no disease, cancer, heart attacks, diabetes. They are some of the healthiest cultures that have ever lived. I mean, again, let's take the Hunza tribe, for example. Their diet, they were lactovegans. So they were drinking anywhere between 4 to 3 liters of raw milk per day. You know, a lot of native tribes refer to milk as white blood because they believed that there was energy force inside the milk. Now, to some extent, that's actually, that's true. It's a good way of looking at it, but it was a different product. So when people say milk's good for you, yes, but not today. Because if we look at milk today, it's not the same product that it was, you know, 50 years ago. And I mean, when you pick up a carton like Pure LightStar and it says high in calcium and only 1% fat, my point is 1% fat, that's moronic. Why would you want milk that's 1% fat? Milk is actually supposed to be high in fat because that's where the vitamins are. Where do you think you're going to get the vitamin, Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. You're not going to get it from 1% fat milk unless it's fortified. So I know I've gone on a little bit of a rant in this video, but it's needed to be said. Milk is a terrible product, and unfortunately raw milk in Australia is actually illegal to sell. Now I'm really disappointed at that, and it actually pisses me off because, you know, I love, I'm really into my training. I love health and fitness, and I want to get the best body and results and build as much strength and muscle as I possibly can and do it naturally eating wholesome, healthy foods. And I don't have access to one of the superfoods, raw organic milk, that could help me do that. So you know what? I want you to get angry. I want you to get pissed off. And I want you to help me get raw milk legal in this country. Look, I don't know much about the law. I don't know much about parliament. You know, I don't know much about politicians. So, you know, I'm asking the YouTube video, the viewers who watch this video, If you like it, pass it on and let's get raw milk legal in this country because, you know, if you're into your health and fitness, it could certainly help you pack on those muscles. I just want to remind everyone that, you know, it was Arnold Schwarzenegger who came from Austria who was drinking and guzzling raw milk and which helped build his physique. But just recently in California, he's passed a bill to illegalize the selling of raw milk. You know what I say? For shame on Arnold Schwarzenegger, because he knows the benefits better than anyone of raw milk. So, that's my rant for this video.
