A coach explains why framing the relationship as "us" instead of "me versus you" matters. The coach commits to challenging you, advocating for you, and pushing you toward growth as a partner in your own development.
You want to coach the identity aspect of things. It's not me versus you, it's us. We are on the same team. This is our objective. Do we agree upon this objective? If yes, okay, you agree that I get to challenge you on these things. A lot of time what's missing with trainers is the mentality of us versus them. It's me versus you, and it's never me versus you. You're employing me to be on your team. I'm in your corner, literally. I'm in your corner. Yeah, I couldn't be any more in your corner. I'm going to be your advocate, but I'm going to be your biggest critic, but I'm also going to be your biggest cheerleader.
