Problem Solving for Business Owners (This Technique Works)

A three-column template (Problem, Solution, Progressor) helps business owners delegate and track tasks. List the specific problem, define the solution, assign an owner, then use color-coding (green, yellow, red) to show status. James gets the website copy, someone else handles Facebook ads.

All right, who's heard of the problem, solution, progressor format? Huh? Okay, so this is a way to manage people. So for like a few of you who are talking about delegation, how to manage people, right? So think of a project that you have and think of a problem. So someone said before website, so getting a website to be built. So you might say website, that's the formatting or whatever it is, copy. So that's your problem. The solution obviously is to fix the, fix the website. The progressor, you want to allocate someone in your business who's going to progress the issue. So if that's you, you right at you, then you go to the next problem in the business. So let's say for example, fixing the Facebook ads or creating Facebook ads creative. So that's column 1 is what the problem is. The solution is having the Facebook ads up running live. Then the progressor, you allocate the person who's gonna progress that. Next problem, let's say is delegating. So when you say delegating is the problem, then you start looking at all the tasks that you need to delegate. So you go delegation of Facebook, posting, delegation of writing ads, delegation of posting it on LinkedIn. Let's say, for example, say solution is upload, and you can start to list. Solution is uploading everything in Hootsuite and making sure everything is there. Then you allocate a progressor to it. The progressor is James, needs to tick off whatever it is. So using this format of, of problem, what the solution is, and then who the progressor is. So if you are managing a few people, say we're managing the trainers, we want them to do all different things. Everyone can see what, what their role is from what the problem is, what the solu— what the solution, what the intended outcome is, and who needs to to take ownership of that. And then if you put in a Google Doc, you can use the traffic light system where green is it's done, red is it's urgent and needs to get done and what's going on, you need to report on it, and yellow is that it's pending and waiting on. So like let's say for example, James and I are communicating, I might go into the spreadsheet and type in, James, I just updated this but I have a problem. Can you please support me by asking Matt if he's able to do X, Y, and Z? So then I've passed it over to James to follow up with Matt to be able to, so I can then progress it if then I was allocated the progressor. So very, very simple format. In just managing and delegating. Problem— I like to state the problem. What's the solution? Who's going to be the progressor? So if you're working in teams, very, very helpful.
