The Truth About Supplements — Part 1 (Start Here)

Mark argues modern soil is depleted of minerals beyond nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, leaving food nutritionally deficient even when organic. He links nutrient gaps to poor sleep, low energy, and a 75% drop in male sperm count since 1960, from 80 million/mL to 20 million/mL. Supplements, he says, are a necessary adaptation, not expensive urine.

Hi, it's Mark. Welcome to your first class. Today I'm going to tell you exactly why you should supplement and smash a popular myth. So let's get started. With a name like The Truth About Supplements, you could mistake me for being anti-supplementation. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Supplements are necessary for optimal health, and my guess is that if you're watching this video right now, you want the most out of your body, right? Well, that's what I thought. So let's entertain this idea for just a quick sec. Why take supplements? Well, one of the most important reasons to take supplements actually has a lot to do with our soil. You see, the majority of commercial fruits and vegetables are grown from soil that contains just 3 minerals, folks. And by the way, there's about 57 minerals, but we just get 3 in our soil: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Or in farmer talk, that's NPK, which is the most commonly used fertilizer in the world today. So what does this really mean? Well, it means the food we eat is depleted. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if the soil is depleted, it's going to produce food that is depleted. And add to that the fact that farmers have to spray crops with pesticides today because the food is not strong enough to fight off things like insects and bacteria. It just basically dies if it doesn't get the pesticides. So in a nutshell, depleted soil equals depleted food and nutrients. There is a vicious spiral that is happening in the food industry today, especially in Western society, that leaves people who want to have optimal health with very few options. Food is not what it used to be. We all need to get over that. So food today is, one, nutrient deficient, and two, pesticide laden. And look, I know the argument. I can already hear it from here. I buy organic. Well, guess what, folks? Here's the deal. I buy organic too. The reason you buy organic is because of what you don't get. That's the pesticides. But there is no guarantee that the organic food comes from nutrient-rich soil. Sorry, Paul Cheki. So how do we make up the difference? Supplements. I mean, you could buy all your food from a sustainable farmer, but let's really face it, for most of us, that just isn't as practical as buying and using supplements on a day-to-day basis. Supplements are society's adaptation for optimal nutrition. Now, if you post that on your Facebook, the deal is you quote me. Supplements are not just for fat burning and muscle building and optimal health. No, no, no. Maybe you can't sleep at night. Maybe you can't get out of bed in the morning. Maybe you're stressed out of your mind or waking up in the middle of the night. Well, I've got news news for you, those things are not normal. And by the way, normal isn't what it used to be. Did you know that the World Health Organization have continually lowered the normal male sperm level? In 1960, it was 80 million sperm per milliliter. Today, it's just 20 million. This is not a useless fact. No, I do have a point. I say this in a hope to empower you and others and help them realize that supplements are a normal part of health. I mean, who wants to have 20 million sperm? And just in case you ever cross some clown on a Swiss ball telling you supplements end up as expensive urine, let's consider this for a moment. Anabolic steroids are tested with a urine test. So by the same logic, if an athlete shows up positive on a urine test, they should be cleared as the steroids just passed through the system without doing anything. Somebody better call Ben Johnson and give him the gold medal back. No, no, no, no, that's ridiculous. The notion that supplements show up in your urine is not a bad thing. If someone tells you supplements are a waste of money because you piss them out, quote Robert Quayle, author of The Carnitine Miracle, and say, "I want the most expensive urine money can buy." Tomorrow I share with you a supplement that you can take today and start feeling better, recovering better, sleeping better, having more energy, burning more fat, building more muscle, and my guess is that you're not actually taking it. Probably the most underrated supplement of all. And no, this isn't a joke. I'll reveal it all tomorrow.
