James can't fully straighten his arm, which ruins his deadlift form and risks a biceps tear. The trainer builds end-range elbow strength by gradually loading the biceps tendon, starting light and working up so James can straighten his arm through the whole lift.

We're addressing a dysfunction, but we're also training hypertrophy. You can see how when we incorporate training in the exercise selection, I'm addressing an issue for James, which is through his shoulder and his inability to really straighten that arm, which is going to cause problems and issues for his deadlift. I said to him yesterday, I don't want him to do a mixed grip because he was bending his arm when he was on the mixed grip, which if you're doing that, that's a, a torn bicep waiting to happen, because when you shift, all the load goes to the bicep and it will go straight away. So I want to be able to get him into the position where he's comfortable with that end range strength and really be able to straighten his arm by lengthening and strengthening that bicep tendon and getting him used to straightening his elbow the whole time. We started light and then progressively we went heavier.
