Mark Ottobre shows how foot position changes which hamstring muscles fire. Most people train toes-out, leaving the inner hamstring weak. You need toes-in, toes-out, and different ankle angles to hit all three heads.
Start with your toes pointed. All right, 4 like that. Good. 1, do the best you can.
4. Now point your toe and do 2 more. Good. 1, pull, pull, pull. 2. Good. How'd that feel? Nice. Good. Where are you feeling it?
With the toes pointed that way, more here.
Okay.
With the toes pointed that way, more on my hamstring. Yeah, cool.
When we do hamstring work, especially isolated work, we need to train all the heads of the hamstring and go after what's weak. So we need to train a dorsiflex position, but we also need to plan the plantarflex position. And then toes in, toes out. Okay, mainly toes in though, because toes out— everyone's strong toes out.
