Episode 01: How to Break Free from Wanting and Master The Art of True Manifestation with Matt Cooke

A recorded interview (podcast-style YouTube episode) in which host Annie Breen speaks with manifestation coach Matt Cooke at the Galloping Gut Hut, Cornwall. They cover Matt’s journey from corporate estate agent to manifestation coach (including a spiritual encounter with his late mother), explain his core idea that we attract who we are being (not simply what we want), and teach practical tools—self-observation, journaling, meditation, gratitude, visualization/rehearsal and incremental goal-stepping—to rewire limiting beliefs and embody desired states. Matt shares a detailed manifestation case study: reverse-engineering the path to a Penguin Random House book deal for his debut Beyond Wanting (published 11 Nov / 11/11), and discusses partnerships, parenting, signs/synchronicity, and embodiment as active practice.

Hello and welcome to Technically Episode one with my first guest of Break Free with Annie Breen. I am so excited. I'm actually sat here in the Galloping Gut Hut on. On the coast of Cornwall at Bedruth and Steps, and have a very exciting guest to introduce to you, and that is Matt Cook. He is a renowned manifestation coach. And there is a huge manifestation story behind how I've actually come to be speaking to Matt today, which we share within our conversation. And at this time, his first debut book, Beyond Wanting, is actually being published on 11 11, which is super exciting. Thank you, Annie. It's great to be here.
Can we just address where we are?
I would say one of the most magical places on earth.
Yeah, yeah.
Bedroom steps. Having a podcast in your coffee trailer. Magical.
Well, let's backtrack a minute to how we actually got to this point, because I think it was November last year, I bought your Evolve course online, and it was around the time we actually launched this in the farmer's barn next door. Very kind of soft launch, just to test the equipment a year ago.
Wow.
So I really wanted some guidance with manifesting how we were going to move forward with it. And you just came into my radar, like on Instagram, and I was just mesmerized by your videos, and I saw that you did that course, so I went through the whole thing. I actually did it I've got all of my notes. And part of that was visualizing bringing together, like, a vision board of different festivals that we wanted to go to, because we really wanted, as much as selling coffee, we wanted to go out there and connect with the people, which is why we. We pursued this adventure and help people live their most authentic, liberated life. So I did that. I followed everything that you said. I came up with my little kind of purpose statement, which, by the way, was so helpful. And it's exactly what I'm doing, sharing inspiring conversations with people. And part of that was Paradis. So I'd never heard of Paradis before. Festival in Cornwall. And again, it came into my kind of orbit. So I applied, but I think I applied. I thought I applied for the trailer and to speak there and didn't hear anything. And that's what you get, like, with festivals. Can you put applications out and see what comes back? And I think literally, oh, that. Then I saw that you were going to be speaking there.
Yes.
So I was like, no, well, at least I need to go. I need to get a ticket. And then the Whalers were announced, and I absolutely love the Wailers. So I was kind of visualizing in my head this kind of scene of me dancing to the waitlist, chatting to you. Don't know where it was coming from. We not heard back. And then seven days before, we had, out of the blue, an email to say, can you come to Paradis? Someone has dropped out. I was like, no.
There you go. It's how it works.
So I messaged you just to tell you the story, and you came straight back to me. I said, wow, he's so busy. It's amazing that he's like, come back. And then on the Saturday, we were parked there, and you just came to the trailer, and I was like, this is exactly minus the Whalers that we're going to be playing later. This is exactly what I envisioned. And then from there, we agreed to do the podcast, which has brought us to Cornwall, which, by the way, big thank you. Because part of doing this whole thing is to go on a bit of an adventure and the lifestyles for us as much as, like, inspiring people as well. So that's how we're here.
Yeah. And it's an honor. And a lot of people know this who follow me. Coffee is my third love in life, behind Khoristan and Humphrey. And then the fourth love, of course, is everything I do. So to be here talking about manifestation, meeting someone like yourself, and sipping coffee at the same time is a Dream come true.
Amazing. And what I just want to start with. I'd love you just to introduce yourself, who you are and what you do. And this podcast is called Break Free. I'd love to hear from you, Matt, what you've had to break free from to become the person you are today, to become the manifestation coach that you are.
Sure. So I'm Matt. I'm a manifestation coach, a speaker. I speak all around the world now as well, which is amazing. And I teach a very simple, often complex subject. Manifestation is the deliberate act of bringing something that you desire that could be anything, any dream you have. It could be a relationship. It could be money. I teach people how to bring that into the physical realm using the power of thoughts, action, and feeling. And I demystify it with science. So I never, ever thought I'd be a manifestation coach and now author with my book coming out, which we'll talk about. But I was in property for 10 years, and that's what I thought my life was going to be. You know, I was 26 years old at the time. This is 2018. I'd been in the corporate world for about getting on for 10 years, and I was suffering from a lot of corporate stress. I had this tight feeling around my chest. I was struggling to breathe, and I didn't know what to do. I think anyone can relate who's in the corporate world. So. From the most unexpected source at the time, my wife's grandmother recommended that I had some reflexology just to help me sort of relieve this stress and this pressure. And I was dealing with a lot at the time. I was pretty young to be managing this sort of firm. And I went along for what I thought would just be a simple reflexology session at her house, my wife's grandmother's house. She agreed to get me and the therapist, and as I lay down for what I thought would be a simple foot massage, he asked me a question that changed everything. And the therapist said to me as I was laying there, so, Matt, tell me who you are. And I turned to him and I said, I'm 26 years old. I'm an estate agent. I'm the youngest manager of my firm. Started to reel off all my titles and my achievements. And he said, no, no, no. I didn't ask what you did for a living. I asked who you are. So talking about breaking free from identity, I didn't know who I was. I thought I was that suit and tie, that. That corporate estate agent. And I have this huge moment of realization that, wow, the Reason I'm under this stress, the reason I'm not happy is because whoever I is inside that suit and tie isn't happy. And I think so many of us identify as our external sort of shield and armor when there is someone inside. And that was my initial desire. That was my initial want to try and figure out who that person was inside. And I just knew that he, whoever he was, wasn't happy as an estate agent, wasn't happy in this corporate world, and wasn't happy with the prospect of 40 years doing that, trading time for money. So that's when I initially dec to start exploring alternative options to get out of the rat race, to break free from the shackles of what society had told me I should be doing. And, you know, instead of trying to make my dad proud, even though he wasn't giving me that recognition, I decided to make myself proud and, you know, decided to try and somehow create freedom for my wife, Khorasan, and I. And I didn't know where to start, and I just started to explore online and, you know, I was watching motivational videos to try and keep me sort of motivated in my corporate job and started listening to Tony Robbins and Jim Rohn and started to understand this concept of being able to work from anywhere in the world as long as you have a laptop and an Internet connection. And that sounded interesting. And a lot of people know what happened next. In February 2019, one evening, I had a completely unbelievable experience. I had a spiritual experience where I connected with my late mother, who passed over 18 months before that. I physically spoke to her one night, and that absolutely shattered my worldview. You know, I realized in that moment, there's more to life than meets the eye. There is. There is more to this physical world. I've literally spoken to my mother, who's no longer here, so we'll go into this in a moment. But that's how it got me on this path to where I am now, from corporate mat to then spiritual mat. And that's sort of where it started.
That's amazing. And I was just gonna ask you, like, what were the shifts in the belief I think you mentioned? And this is something that I can really relate to and my community and audience and the people that I work with is how we inherit certain conditioning and beliefs. So I think you said about your father's voice or that inner. That inner voice you're trying to please, not disappoint, or. And there was the switch between actually realizing it's you who you need to do right by and please and Focus on. So tell me a little bit about those kind of shifts in beliefs that maybe how we can start to recognize them. Because our unconscious programming, a lot of us don't realize that we're being run by thoughts, patterns, beliefs that aren't necessarily conscious unless we bring our awareness to it. And then maybe you can go into your philosophy about wanting and why that is a problem when so many of us are in lack, not feeling enough, being run by these kind of unconscious patterns.
Yeah, it's a great question. I think firstly, the most powerful question we can always ask ourselves is what do I want? Now, of course, my book is called Beyond Wanting. And I'll talk about the whole phrase and what I mean by wanting. But wanting is a great place to start. But wanting represents what we haven't got. What we're in lack of wanting is the energy of not having. But we need to say, what do I want? Not the shell, not the conditioning, not societal. What do I want? And that's where we all have to start. This inner awareness of self, whether you call that the soul, whether you call it consciousness, awareness, observation, whatever you, whatever label you want to give it, I'll tell you one thing. The eye is always seeking expansion. He's always seeking freedom and liberation, excitement and passion. Movement. That's what it is to be a soul. A soul doesn't like contraction. So whoever's listening to this, ask yourself that question. Is what you're doing right now lighting you up, or do you feel heavy and dense and contracted? Because I think very simply, very quickly, you can discern whether you're in the right place. For me, at the time, I was in the wrong place because I felt contracted. I actually had a tight chest and I couldn't breathe.
Yeah.
So the very possibility of breaking free from that created excitement, compassion, and expansion. The truth is, though, I had no idea how I could possibly make money out of what I'd been conditioned through. Corporate. You know, I had a mortgage, I had debt up to my ears. I had cars on finance. There was no way I could just quit. But it starts with just possibility and intrigue. So I think it's interesting to understand this, that 95% of who we are by the age of 35, neuroscience tells us now is a set of hardwired subconscious beliefs and patterns that run below our conscious awareness that run the show so we can have a lot of the time, the conscious desire to change. I could have had that conscious desire to break free. But I'm up against the storehouse of conditioning telling Me? No, Matt, no. To earn money, you've got to do this 9 to 5. To earn money, you've got to do this. But that's not truth. That's just being conditioned through our repetition of our upbringing and our experience. So to get power back, we have to recognize that we are always in control. We're even in control of that program. It's just a little bit difficult to start with. So it starts with Annie. It starts with that. And it starts with the awareness of I, that I is truly seeking.
Yeah, I think that's so interesting. It makes me think of letting go. Like, we hear this kind of banded around so much is we need to release those things that are holding us back, that are forcing us to be someone we're not. That suppressing our spirit, our energy. But that's hard. Like, what would be your kind of thoughts? Tell me about, like, letting go and releasing. Because it is so deeply entrenched in the fabric of our being. And what society says is right, good enough. We should be doing this. The shoulds, expectations, family, you know, that we've been kind of modeled. So it's. It is really breaking free from a whole load of history and conditioning, isn't it? So how did you start to like, release that and shift that within yourself?
So it starts with self observation. Observation is the key to manifestation. Before you get clear on what you want and your vision board and the dream, you've got to start being the investigator of yourself and resonate and understand the programs that are running the show. So if we're all aware of this inner critic, the one that's trying to tell us who we should be, what we should do based on who's telling us what we should do, who's the one listening to that? Who's the one listening to that dialogue inside the. Inside the head? Who's listening to the negative thoughts? Because whoever's listening isn't the thoughts. There is always something else inside that's observing the critic or the conditioning or the program. And that is what I call the observer. So to start with, when it comes to this work, we have to first take a step back and observe quite literally our brain. And what I always say is, start in the driver's seat of observation and just simply watch and record and resonate and understand. So I share this a lot at the moment, but I'll share it with you now. And for anyone listening. I'm now speaking around the world and people buy my tickets to see me speak. So in the last month, 800 people have flown in from around the world to see me speak in various locations. However, I've had a limiting belief that I've really had to work on and I'm authentically sharing this, that people won't buy tickets to see me speak. Now intellectually that sounds crazy because I haven't got far from a million followers on all platforms. So you'd think logically, of course someone's going to buy your tickets. But instead of like fighting that limiting belief, why don't I step back and try and understand it and try and resonate and at least understand where it may have come from? Well, if I look at my life and events in my life, family have always let me down. Whenever it comes to a wedding or a christening, there's always some family that have disappointed me in some way. So the repetition of that makes sense then. Now I'm at a point in my career where I'm speaking around the world and people are coming to my events. It makes sense that there'll be a voice in my head that says, you're going to be disappointed. Now it's not true though. It's just, it's just presenting imagery from my past and my story. It doesn't mean that is true. So instead of fighting, we resonate and understand and go, ah, I understand why you're playing, thank you. Because what you're trying to do is protect me. That's all that that voice in the head is trying to do. Because it lives in the landscape of the past and the now. What it is actually afraid of is the unknown, which is the future. So that's where the logic and intellect and the conscious mind comes in really useful because you can dissect it and understand it and go, okay, thank you, but actually we're going to rewire you.
Yeah.
So then what happens is instead of that limiting beliefs, which is no one's going to attend my events. I catch it, watch it, resonate with it and reframe it to every day, in every way, beautiful souls from around the world seek tickets to see me speak. And that there in the brain is called neuroplasticity. Which means that at any age you can rewire, well trodden pathways through repetition. They used to think the brain was Primarily fixed at 21, but at any age now you can rewire those paradigms and those thoughts. Now you can't do that though, unless first you sit in the self observational seat and just watch your brain. And it's called your default mode network. It's going to Light up different brain regions depending on what you're doing. So that limiting belief I wasn't even aware of of until I started to then consider doing events. So wherever anyone is in their life right now, whatever change they're seeking, maybe it's someone in the rat race going, I'd love to get out. What they're going to see light up in their brain straight away. Is a limiting belief related to the.
Idea of breaking free because the unconscious is always trying to keep you safe.
Exactly.
It's the familiar self, isn't it?
Yes.
And speaking for myself, also authentically sharing, I think I can get quite addicted to my familiar self. It's. It's the known. Even though it's not comfortable, it's familiar. And actually going into the unknown, all that kind of stuff. I like the phrase new level, new devil like, or new level old devil because it brings up all the stuff that you need to look at in order to grow, expand and evolve. Similar to what children do, by the way. Right. And we'll come to fatherhood as well. So. Oh, gosh, there's so much there. So going into the, the unknown, what tell me about conscious manifestation and kind of unconscious manifestation because we're always manifesting. And something that I've noticed and again, just authentically sharing is we, we sold our house to do this project to renovate the trailer with a really strong intention to change our lifestyle for the good and help others. If we really boil it down, it's just to keep it simple. That's what we wanted to do. Want to do. Desire, not want.
There's a healthy want, though, which we can talk about.
Yeah, yeah. And interestingly, through the process of doing it, it has been quite stressful. So I think, you know, both me and Dan have been functioning from this fight or flight which has become the norm. The familiar. So although we're actually progressing and we are achieving and we're, we're. We're trading and we're going out there. The soul, I think, is a bit suppressed and tired. It's contracted, like you were saying. So the bigger mission, which is a much more spiritual one and energetic, more of a movement of who we are and kind of expanding our resources and gifts rather than just selling coffee maybe isn't getting the attention right now. And what I've noticed is kind of being until today is being stuck in this cycle where you're kind of stuck in this stress response. You're moving forward, but it's not feeling fulfilling in the way that maybe it should.
But yeah, well, that's because firstly the ego, you know, I'm not saying you have an ego. We all have an ego. Which is, which is the, you know, the intellect and the conscious mind. It's never, it's always striving for something else. So you've said a few things there which we can unpack. Firstly, this was a conscious manifestation which is fulfilled. But now of course, the bigger mission is not fulfilled. So of course we get stuck constantly in this separation. So the man who loves walking will always walk further than the man who loves the destination, you know, so it's manifestation should never be about a destination because you never actually arrive. It's always about the journey. Try and see the destinations as checkpoints along the way because the more you fall in love with the journey, the quicker the destinations will arrive because of the whole energy around happiness and excitement for what is, versus lack and separation for what isn't. So to answer your question, coming backwards though, conscious manifestation, well, every single human being is in a state of manifestation. When I first heard the concept that manifestation is the ability to bring something into your physical world, I thought, nonsense. I didn't buy it. You know, I was a traditional guy. I thought you had to work hard to make money and success. And I sort of thought, you know, really, I sort of had this idea of like this genie in a bottle granting wishes. It's not that there's science to it. And when I started hearing about the law of attraction and that like attracts like, because I'd connecting with my, connected with my mom, and I knew that there was more to reality than meets the eye. I started to explore quantum mechanics and quantum physics. And just very simply, if you break down everything to its physical form, even this trailer, even our human bodies, we arrive at the atomic level, atoms, and they're very predictable. They're made of everything we can see. But when we go below an atom and we start to say, okay, well, what are these atoms made from? They're made from subatomic particles. And why they're really interesting is because they don't, they don't appear in one state as a fixed location. They're constantly popping in and out of space. So they're only in one, one sort of fixed location. When you as an observer is observing it, these parts, particles, the moment your observation moves, it disappears and instantly reappears wherever you're observing. So when you're not observing these particles, they, they. Where do they go back to? They go back to where we're all from and where everything's from which is this infinite field of energy.
Yeah.
Which you can label the universe, the field, the quantum field, the unified field, God source, the divine matrix, whatever you want to call it. All we need to understand is it's an infinite field of energy, also known as the wave, because energy is also known as the wave. And everything that is derived from that field and is now a particle, like our human body is known as a particle. So what turns that wave of energy into physical reality is a conscious observer, wherever you are observing collapses the wave into the particle. So the reason I say we're always in a state of manifestation is because manifestation is turning an infinite field of energy which is always moving at different frequencies and frequency carries information. It's collapsing that energy into the physical world. Now, most people's observation of reality is. Is rooted in lack, rooted in trauma, rooted in suffering, rooted in what they haven't got right. So what they're unconsciously doing is collapsing that energy into their physical world. And then, then they continue seeing these patterns in their life. What I help people do is become, instead of the majority of the planet, unconsciously manifesting. And some are very good, by the way, unconsciously manifesting. When you become a conscious manifesto, what you do is you understand what I've just said. You get clear on your future and you rehearse it, and you see it as if it's already done. And then you start to see the synchronicities unfolding because you're observing reality from a different lens. Instead of observing what you haven't got, you're observing what you have as if you already have. And then that's what turns that energy into matter, and that's manifestation.
So just taking a pause in this conversation to let you know that you can get your first bag of exhale when you subscribe for 50% off. And I think you probably know how much I love this coffee. It is incredibly. I'm a certified nutritional therapist and I wouldn't drink anything else. This is a coffee that loves you back. It nourishes your nervous system, your gut, and is full of phytonutrients and antioxidants. So it really is giving back, not just depleting you. And at the Galloping Gut Hut, we wouldn't serve anything else. So please go to the link in the show notes and subscribe. And get 50% off your first bag. Amazing. The way I understand it from what you're saying is embodiment is manifestation, isn't it? So it's embodying that Version of you that already has the thing or the state. So to feel gratitude, to feel abundant, to feel free, to feel freedom. Is that right? Is it embodying it?
Yeah.
Now?
Yeah, it's. It's exactly what it is. It's. I think the analogy I use is I want someone listening to this just to think for a moment about something that they want, something that they're in lack of right now in their life. Okay. And then I want you to imagine looking into a mirror. If you look into a mirror with a sad face because you want happiness, that mirror is going to only reflect a sad face. But how many people are caught waiting for the reflection outside of them to change to then be happy? It doesn't work like that, because if you wait for the mirror to change, you'll be waiting a long time. The moment you smile, the mirror instantaneously reflects a smile. That is the unified field. It always says yes to who you're being because it is a mirror. You're creating your reality based on your observation in that mirror. So if you want happiness, be happy. If you want more money, be abundant. And I'm not saying because someone might say, well, how can I be abundant without money? Well, what are you good at? What's your knowledge? Can you be abundant with your time?
Yeah.
If you be abundant, you will attract abundance. It is. I know the sites. It is. It is a mirror. So to answer your question, it's the full embodiment. Yes. Of the state of being, of already having now. People struggle with that, Annie, though, because they say, how can I embody a future version of myself that's so far out from where I am now? How can I do that? Two ways. Firstly, if you don't believe it, you're gonna have a hard time really embodying it. So why not reverse engineer down that manifestation to a step that feels closer to you to embody? If you're looking to manifest a relationship, but you subconsciously feel so unworthy and so unloved, trying to pretend that you're in a relationship ain't gonna work.
Exactly.
However, trying to adopt more of a state of being, of just feeling a little bit more love for yourself and feeling a little bit more grateful for what life is, is slowly changing that reflection in the mirror. And then actually, interestingly, scientifically, if someone slows down their brainwaves in a meditation, or even when we sleep and we go from beta brainwaves down to alpha, which is the first level of the subconscious, and down to theta, the brain subconsciously does not know the difference between what's a dream and what's real. It doesn't. So if someone's rehearsing whatever it is. When I say rehearse, I mean visualize. If someone's visualizing their future in a meditation, their body reacts emotionally as if it's already happening. But you have to get past the analytical part of your brain which questions and reasons and says, no, it's not.
That said, because I. I know I can speak for myself. And a lot of my audience and clients is that logically, they understand, they get it, they know what they want. But from a kind of embodiment point of view, they're still stuck in these cycles of lack. Interestingly, when I was in Glastonbury, I went for a massage. It was a market. I didn't want to spend too much. I didn't know if I could just book in. So she was doing, just drop in and she said, do you have permission to do some energy work?
Yeah.
And she released some tension in the body. But at the end she just said, you're gonna have to let go of that thing you're holding on to, otherwise it's gonna keep coming back. I was like, right, which one of those things is that? I said, okay. And then she said, you just need to do what makes you feel good. And it was that simple. Because then. Then I can feel that in my body, all the self talk or the limitations of why that could be selfish or what that. I guess that kind of shines a light on what you need to release. Right? Because surely that's what we're here for, is to do what makes us feel good, knowing that that ripples out. Because when we treat ourselves with love and care and we do what makes us feel good, that does have an effect on everyone else, obviously, if the intention is there to be a kind person and a good person. And what I just wanted to ask you on what you were saying is I work with a lot of people that have really kind of justifiable reasons to why this could be really hard. You know, I really like the phrase despite it all. Like, what can you do despite it all? Whether they're at home, they don't have much support, they've got children with extra needs, they're stuck in kind of trauma and old patterning. What does that rehearsal? What do those steps look like for someone just taking those small steps to rehearse, just loving themselves a little bit more, or breaking free from these kind of old ways into creating and attracting.
More of what they, yeah, it's a really great question. I think a lot of people can relate to what you've just said. But again, the ego comes in and says, if I'm not focusing on my dreams, I'm. It's not going to happen. But the truth is I believe that dreaming smaller manifests faster. Right. So even, even a simple practice every day of gratitude.
Yeah.
Meditation, a guided meditation. Despite the circumstance everyone has for free, despite finances, despite trauma, the ability to slow down, sit in a meditation, follow a guided meditation and rehearse possibility and rehearse and visualize something. Just dream. And it starts as simple as that. My, one of my mottos in life is just keep it simple.
Yeah, I love that.
Just keep it simple. You know, my routine every morning is to meditate. Journal journaling is my war room. People say, don't be negative, be negative. Get it out onto paper. If you're going through a hard time, write, write. Julia Cameron has this famous practice called morning pages. And essentially all it is is you start with an empty journal and you commit every day to writing a minimum of three pages in that journal. So I think anyone who's going through trauma, struggling in any form, it's a great place to start a free flowing stream of consciousness writing, get it out. Because when you get it out, you become that conscious observer and you can witness and you can see and you can see patterns and you can see the strength in what you're going through. You know, you can have compassion for yourself. It's just a great place to start. Adopting gratitude for what's already in your life is another great place to start. And just being that observer over your brain as well. So that's what I'd recommend to people. Just start small. And as they start falling in love for that practice and that new routine, they will see synchronicity in their life. That's the magic. And also, if anyone's really struggling, here's what I would say. Whatever it is that that person wants, write down all the emotions that you think you would have in your life when those desires manifest. Peace, love, happiness, joy, gratitude, whatever, and say to yourself, what could I do in my life now? What activities could I do in my life now that I know would make me feel that way emotionally? And as they go and do them, they will see synchronicity happening just by being in the landscape of those activities that make them feel that way.
I love that. And just actually listening to you is hands up. I'd let go of my practices in the whole cycle of doing and, you know, trying to kind of do the logical, logistical kind of stuff. I'd let go of those more spiritual practices and actually your recent email about moving through difficult emotions. And actually you can manifest when you're in those states or you can maybe speak to that a little bit more. But one of your journal prompts was, what would you write if no one else was going to read it? And it is. It's giving yourself permission to get really honest with yourself.
Yeah.
Right. Be honest with yourself. Absolutely. Yeah. Love that. And just tell me, tell me about your book and if you don't mind, share the story, because I think you shared the story at your talk, which I think I cried all the way through in paradise. Yeah, but share. Let's share the manifestation story. I know you've got quite a few, but with the book, that's quite incredible.
So first, I mean, be authentic and let things roll as they're. Like right now. I'm loving this chat. What people can't see this chaos going on around us. You know, there's. There's people walking, there's dogs barking. You know, we're right on the side of the coast, it's a bit windy. And like, don't filter that out. Like, my. My motto in life is authenticity is actually misunderstood. It is one of the fastest forms of vibrational energy. Or authenticity moves faster than love.
I was just going to say that.
Yeah. So, you know, what people love is authenticity. And be authentic with yourself. Have permission to be authentic with your writing and your journaling and say, like, you know, what. What do. What do I want? You know, and we'll talk about wanting. Because wanting can be misunderstood. There's a healthy want, an inspirational want for seeking change, you know, and seeking expansion. And then there's a want that's rooted in lack and suffering. And, like, I want my life to change. So the whole premise of my book, Beyond Wanting, is that we don't attract into our life what we want, because that's like being in the mirror and wanting a happy face with a sad face. The universe will only reflect who you're being. So we don't attract what we want. We attract into our life who we're being. And I've explained that. So in order to attract what it truly is that we really want, whether that's love, peace, a relationship, business, success, we have to move beyond that want and we have to embody that version of ourselves that already has it. So my story, well, it started in 20, 20, 21. I started posting this Content on social media. Never thought I'd be a manifestation coach. And it started to take off and I got a decent following over on TikTok. And then in 2022, I had no followers on Instagram at all, just friends. I had this dream out of nowhere to write a book. I'd always liked the idea of doing it, but that was the dream. That was the inspiration that came. But this limiting belief came up straight away. And it was like, who are you to write a book? Firstly, and secondly, you know, you struggled with English a little bit at school. You were the youngest in your year. You know, I always remember my English teacher giving me a hard time. But I had this dream of Penguin Random House, because I remember the little penguin. And so that was the dream. And I love to use science and intellect to demystify, but break down manifestation. So I said to myself, then in 2022, do I believe right now that I could manifest Penguin? I knew it already existed, but I didn't believe from where I was I could focus solely on that. And that's the problem, Manny. People often are here and they focus on that big goal, and the lack and the separation between the two points creates form of anxiety. So what I did is I said to myself, let me reverse engineer down this manifestation to what I think could be the next step. So it made sense to me that really now to get a publishing house like Penguin, especially the lodged in the world, you could do with an agent, an agent to represent you, to negotiate on your behalf. And that's what publishing houses want. They want you to have an agent. But where am I going to find an agent? So it made sense to me to reverse engineer down the agent to what I thought could be someone who could help me, a mentor. But where'd you find a mentor? So I reverse engineered that again to do you know what, it makes sense to actually grow a bit of a platform, because I think that makes sense that a publishing house is also going to want your help marketing that book. So I had a dream. And the first dream was to start on Instagram in 2020, 23rd January, to grow a following of about 100,000 loyal followers by the end of that year. You know, I'm, I'm, I, I love patience. You know, I always like to play the long game. It, you know, it create, gives flow. So that was the initial manifestation. I actually manifested 100,000 followers in five weeks by the 5th of February. And then around that time, I then moved the goalpost. So now, now I know at any Time I could manifest here a mentor that could help me. With 100,000 followers, there's got to be someone potentially looking at me. And then that's exactly what happened. I had an email one day from a guy called David Kirkpatrick. He emails me, he sends his Wikipedia page. And I was like, okay, this guy's obviously interesting. And it turns out he was the former president of Paramount Pictures and a director at Walt Disney Studios. And we get on a call because he wanted to collaborate on something, a project, and it turns out that he's produced some of the biggest films ever created. You know, Forrest Gump, India, Anna Jones, I could name them all. Really interesting guy who's now retired from Hollywood, but has started a school online to help writers turn their writing into either books or film. And he said, matt, I love what you do. I'd love you to coach my writers. So I started coaching his writers on a few zoom calls. And he turned to me and he said, you know, Matt, I think you've got a book in you. And I said, well, it's funny you say that. So we developed this really great friendship. And he. And he said, matt, in the non fiction space, you don't write the book first. You write what's called a proposal, like a business plan. So he helps me put this idea together for this book. And this is like getting now, summer of 2023. And he said, then we're going to pitch it to agents. So he said, is there one particular agent that stands out for you? One particular book that really stands out for you? And I know a lot of people know this story, but there was one book, and that book was Atomic Habits by James Clear. I love the book. I love how it's structured. It's clear. Habits are foundational when it comes to this work. Anyway, the book sold 40 million copies. And I said to David, I said, look, let's. Let's aim to manifest James Clear's agent. So we pitched the proposal to James's agent, and very quickly, actually, we got a very polite rejection email. Now, I know rejection is protection and redirection, so I took a step back. David was a bit offended. She was busy and she couldn't take it on. So we regrouped and we pitched again. And this time we pitched to nine agents. And I very quickly got on a call with an agent called stuff Steve, with 50 years experience in the literary landscape from New York, and he signed me straight away. So I now have an agent. So you can see, have worked up this manifestation and then he helped me refine the proposal a little bit more, and he pitched it then to the biggest publishing houses on the planet. Hay House, Simon Schuster, Penguin Random House, then New York division. And within a few days he phoned me and he said, matt, Penguin Random House would like a call with you. It's like an interview. Be ready. He was like, I'll be on the zoom call with you. So I get on this zoom call with Steve and two editors from Penguin, and the first thing I noticed was a book behind this editor. And I said to her, do you mind me asking why that book is behind you? And she grabbed it and the book was Atomic Habits. And she said, well, it's because this editorial department edited the book. I helped James with the title, the structure of the book, and it turned. And then long story short, it was a very good call. It then normally goes to auction. So different publishing houses auction to win your proposal. And they made me an offer to take it off the table. And I then signed with Penguin and they allowed me to write that in the book. I didn't just manifest the editor. I manifested the publisher, the publicity department, the marketing department, the art department department. My cover was designed by the very art department that designed the COVID for Atomic Habits. And that was like the ultimate manifestation. But I'm hoping people can hear now how, how I manifested that step by step. I once thought that was the destination, but of course from there, then you've got to write the book and then you've got to get through the editing process and then you've got to win the narration because the narration is never guaranteed in that space. You're not given it. When you sign, you're told that you have to walk book. You audition for your own book. So only two weeks ago, I did the narration for Amazon Audible. And now, of course, you know, it's being published and the journey never ends, you see. But that, that's how I manifested it.
I absolutely love that story. And I do just want to ask you about fatherhood before we end, but could you just off the back of that, just tell us about signs? Because we have to see the evidence, don't we have to notice? And sometimes they're really subtle. I thought that was quite big, like the book there. But sometimes the signs that we're on the right path or we're making progress as a small. So just speak to signs a little bit and actually noticing the evidence.
It's a good point. So my. My book beyond wanting publishes on 1111 11th of November. So anyone watching this, I'm sure it's around this time that you'd think I deliberately planned for. But in January of 2025. Yeah. Earlier this year, my editor emailed me and said, matt, we've got a date, I think, for the. For the book to be published Tuesday 11 November, because books are only published on a Tuesday. And I said to her, do not change that date. Lock that in. Tell the senior editor that we're doing that day. It's the perfect frequency for a manifestation book. Eleven. Eleven in numerology means new beginnings. So traditionally there's nine numbers to really think about. One through to nine. One is always the start of that cycle. One and nine is the end. So nine is completion and endings. So 2025 for every. Every soul on planet Earth. Two plus zero plus two plus five is nine. So nine, we're all going through a universal endings sort of cycle, getting ready for 2026, which is back to 1 in numerology. So signs. Signs are the initial manifestations. Turning from energy to physical reality is the easiest way. It's a sequential rendering of energy to matter. It's not just your manifestation appearing out of the blue. It makes sense. It's almost like pixel by pixel. So for it to manifest and unfold first, you'll either see numbers, the synchronicity and the repetition of numbers, like I have and see numbers all the time. Other people see white feathers and objects. Other people hear conversations. Other people get intuition, Other people get dreams. Signs are the. The evidence of what you're doing. Manifesting signs are a mirror. How many times have I mentioned the mirror analogy on this conversation? So whatever signs you're getting are your reflection in that mirror. So that is what signs are. Yeah. And I think you mentioned fatherhood as well, didn't you?
I just wanted. Yeah, thank you so much. And I just wanted to finish on speaking about, about fatherhood, but also your relationship. Like something I love about your content and you is your relationship with Coruscant and how you're a team and you work together. Tell me about manifestation with like partnerships. And I presume you have the same vision and you come together with, with. With that, what you're trying to create together. And how has. How do you work together? And I know that some of the people I work with have conflicts maybe in relationship and maybe sometimes they want different things or it's just hard to communicate. So maybe how you can start to kind of come together more. And how has fatherhood impacted your manifestation?
So I think, firstly, I think Most couples have a unified goal of where they want to go. But I think individually, as. As individuated units of consciousness, we each also have our individual dreams, too. And I think a big epiphany for me once was a simple question that changed everything. And it was actually one of my earlier manifestations was financial independence and money, because it was always a challenge for me. Actually, money, it was a real manifestation of mine to become more abundant financially. And there was a bit of conflict at the start with Coruscant and I like about money because I'd want to do one thing with money and she'd want to do something else. So I asked a question, and that was, what does money mean to you? And for Khorasan, you know, money is the ability to live a good life and to travel and to have freedom and buy nice things, but also have security. For me, that too. But primarily investments and foundations and security. You know, buying material things was always, like, secondary for me. So what I realized in that moment is actually the most important thing you can ever do in a partnership is whatever it is you're seeking, whether it's freedom. What does freedom mean to you, Annie? What does freedom mean to. To your husband? And ask that question and understand it as well. Like, understands someone else's level of consciousness, you know, otherwise you're going to be up against their unconscious and you. That it clashes. Someone asked me that at a talk in Dublin at the. The weekend, you know, that they're building a house and one of them in the partnership is dreaming of it being done and is already trying to. To buy interiors and get an interior designer in and buying furniture. And the other. The other person in the relationship is more focused on the spreadsheet, you know, so it's not going to work, is it? So you've got to understand someone else's level of consciousness. So I think with me and Khorasan, we have a shared vision to change the world and like, you know, and have an impact. But at the same time, we all. We both individually have our own dreams. I think it's really important to hold space and be conscious and ask those deeper questions. What does freedom look like for you? And I think with Humphrey. Is anyone listening to this? Who's got children? They're your greatest teachers, aren't they? He's 11 months old and, you know, he was. He's been sleeping great. He's been sleeping 12 hours, but last night he was up at 3. So, you know, he's going to. Your kids are going to test you. They're going to challenge you, they're going to knock you out of routine, they're going to knock you out of flow. But they're a great reminder of the present moment. And Humphrey is my greatest teacher and I'm very excited to be able to teach him this work, which I of course didn't understand until I was in my late 20s. And you know, I'm sure his soul knew very clearly what, what he was getting himself into. But yeah, I think just, I think any. I would say to anyone who's got kids, especially a child below the age of 12, it doesn't matter if it's older because we're all over 12. Maybe most people listening to this and our brains can be rewired, but we have that trauma. The reason I say that is on average the first 12 years of a child's life is in those slower brain waves. Alpha, theta and delta. First three months, a child's in and out of deep sleep. That's delta. They're awake. Then they're fast asleep. From three months to about four, they're in theta brainwaves. Theta brainwaves. They're highly suggestible, highly hypnotic. You can tell them anything and they'll believe it. And then from around about the age of that to 12, they start to develop. They go into alpha brainwaves where they're still in the imaginary state, but they can start to understand intellectually what you say. And then the moment they start rationalizing Father Christmas not being real because how can he surely deliver that many presents around the world in one evening? You know, they've developed their analytical features and then it's sort of too late. They're then hardwired and programmed. So it's very important. You know the saying, show me a boy, age 7 and I'll show you the man is in those first seven years. They're a sponge. They're subconscious. They're believing anything you're telling them. So what are you feeding them? You know, and that's really important. And if someone's listening to this and going, I wish I knew that when my child was. Just know that it take. It takes conscious awareness to change. So it doesn't matter how programmed we now are. We can unwire and rewrite a program. It just takes a little bit longer. So that's my views on parenthood.
So important. I absolutely love that. I'm so grateful for you and your time and I have pre ordered your book and I can't wait. Is there anything you want to leave us with or leave the audience with. Before we get another coffee?
Yeah. Yeah. Well, absolutely. So I think whatever dream, whatever dream you have first, I want you to understand that it already exists. I've done the science. It exists in this field. Don't hold yourself back from limitation in your mind. It's not true. It's a program. Dream, dream, impossibility and go for it. Take one step forward. I get emotional thinking about it. You know, I. I'd have never have dreamed in a million years I'd be here right now doing things like this, traveling around the world. But I just kept moving forward. And for anyone who buys my book, I'll be honest. Look, you know, I. I think a lot of people write a book for just writing a book and say they've written a book for me. I took my time writing. It took me nearly a year to write it. I wanted it to be an all encompassment of everything I know. It's the book that I wish existed when I was at my hardest moments in 2018, when I quit my corporate job. It's a. It's not just a book. It's a journey. It's a practice. There's a practice at the end of every single chapter. And my goal with that book was to take someone from a state of wanting and hoping to understanding the science behind it and then moving. Moving beyond that into the state. So that's my goal, that everyone reads that book and they fully get it. They fully understand it. They understand how to visualize. They understand how to get clear. They understand on how to take that next step and they can cherish it, write in it, and then pass it along to others. Because that's my dream. To help people from all around the world create their best life.
It's been written with your soul. I can tell. And thank you. Thank you.
Thank you, thank you.
Thank you so much.
Thank you. You're welcome.
