Loved people are protected, right?

A man describes growing up in an overprotective family shaped by faith, where three major accidents and broken bones before age three led his parents to rely on Jesus for safety. The conversation explores whether being loved actually means being protected.

Yeah, I love this, and I love that we're, we're here at this point. I have to tell you, already in listening to you, one of the things I'm most excited to hear about your story is you talk about being overprotected. You were protected in good and in bad ways, right? And I know that one of the lies that I've had to deal with, reckoning, right, wrestling with the Lord with, um, is this: loved people are protected, right? And that, that protection, like that that would be something that I missed out— like I would long for. Protected people are really loved. They're cared about. They're thought about. And I would have never, as a child growing up or as somebody who had wanted a situation like that, I would have never said, oh, there's probably negatives to being overprotected, or to be— you know what I mean? I couldn't imagine a life like that. So if you would indulge me a little bit and take us back and fill out the picture of your childhood. What was that like? Where did you grow up? What was that like growing up? Tell us, like, when you came to Jesus, what it was like in your family to be in relationship with Jesus. Do you know what I mean? Give us some picture. Deepen that a little bit for us.
Okay. Uh, well, I was born in the Pittsburgh area. Well, one of the interesting things that I haven't totally unpacked yet in my life is before I was 3, I was in 3 major accidents and had 3 broken bones.
Okay.
Wasn't anything, you know, it wasn't anybody's fault or anything like that. 2 car accidents and a household accident. And I think that made my parents' reaction to losing my brother even more pronounced because, yes, because I was— and my parents, I mean, growing up I was, oh, she's just accident-prone. Yet when I look at it now as an adult and I think, wow, there something was trying to make sure I didn't live to be an adult.
