Does having a business goal work 🤔

In this episode of the Marketing Muscle Up podcast, host Richard Toutounji argues that clear, written business goals are essential for health and wellness entrepreneurs, but they must be actively integrated into daily work. He shares a personal story about visualizing an apartment layout years before moving in, illustrating how writing down goals can increase the likelihood of achieving them. Richard stresses the need to align weekly to‑do lists with long‑term targets, keep goals visible (e.g., on sticky notes), and stay self‑driven because external guidance is limited. He acknowledges that goals can evolve; flexibility to pivot, outsource, or change direction is vital when a goal no longer feels right. A core practical tool he introduces is the “$50 method,” a four‑box framework that categorizes tasks by their monetary leverage ($5, $50, $500, $5,000) to prioritize high‑impact actions. He warns against copying others’ goals, urging listeners to focus on personal business visions and individual capacities. The episode concludes with a call‑to‑action to visit commarketing.com.au for accountability and marketing support.

It's time that you stepped up. It's time that we all stepped up and said, hey, these goals, these targets we want to hit, they are possible. Welcome back to the Marketing Muscle Up podcast show. I'm Richard Toutounji, and I want to go through today Probably one of the most important factors you need to grow your health and wellness business, and I may say that a bit often, but you know, it's all important when it's done the right way. And today it's all about getting the stuff done, getting this stuff done in marketing and business and sales. It's all a to-do list until you've got some movement on that to-do list, until the to-do list is in kind of the right order. Until the to-do list is, you know, there's a big reason why you want to do those items on the list. The whole season theme is about driven, and when we have a big goal, we have a, you know, a huge goal that we want to achieve, and that could just be a goal that's set somewhere in the future. And a lot of people, I think, Including me here, you can think about something that you want to do, but sometimes it's just out there in the world. And there's an old saying to say, you think about it and you just create it. And that is so true, by the way. When you think about something, it happens. Me and Joe were trying to find a house, like an apartment years ago. We actually drew down what we wanted on this house and we drew it and it was there and we basically just packed in a box. Anyway, we moved into a new apartment and when we were undoing the box, the picture looked pretty much exactly the same as our apartment and we totally forgot about it. It was just like, it was done years and years before. We totally forgot about it. So there is a concept that when you write it down, draw it down, yes, you're more likely to get to that goal, something like 90% more likely to get to that goal. However, if you've got this goal in mind, but then you get into the grind, the work, the daily things that we must do, and we all, we're all going for this outcome that we want. But what I found works well is really honing in that each week and knowing that you've got this goal and does the to-do list fit into that goal. So it's a bit of a reminder today to get those goals out that you wrote down a long time ago, or to get that target that you didn't think you could achieve a long time ago. We are in a new season of business, and if you haven't yet realized it, what worked before won't work now, or it won't work the same as it was working before. And so now's a time where a lot of people sometimes forget their goals and they go, I'll get to that someday, or that will just take me years and years. But now is a time to look at those targets, those goals, whatever you want to call it, and pull them out, put them on a simple sticky note right in front of you every day on your computer, and just read them daily. Read them, write them out daily. And ensure that the activities that you do the rest of the day, the activities that that to-do list is on, is getting you towards that outcome that you want to achieve. Now, the reason why I told you that story about our apartment is because I don't think we really went out there every day and read those goals out and talked about it. It was just something that we were always looking for. And the problem with that was that it was always in the back of our head and it never really— we never really worked on it too much. And then when we had to move, we found a place and it was like, boom, that was the place because why? We knew what we were looking for. And so if you do want to speed things up, which I know you do, and you do want to you know, drive, have a bit more drive in your direction, uh, knowing that your to-do list doesn't have to be a bad thing. It can be a good thing if it works into what you want to do down the line. I believe we are in the season of being driven. I believe we're in the season that if you do want to move forward, you have to be self- driven. Nobody's going out there and saying that, you know, here's the path, go and do it this way. It is about being self-driven and knowing that you got to drive those goals and get them done. So for today, I just think that it's time that you stepped up. It's time that we all stepped up and said, hey, these goals, these targets I want to hit, They are possible. And I'm here to tell you that you can do it if you want to. You can do it if you have the drive. Now, a lot of the time also too, you have these goals and targets and you're working through them and halfway down the line, just realize that's not really what I want. And that's fine as well, by the way, because one big goal gets us to many different paths. And it's really down that path you will know if it's the right goal that you want to achieve or not. Because sometimes to get to that goal is going to require you to do activities and things that doesn't really interest you. And so you have options to, you know, grow a team, to get other people to do it, to outsource it, or to say, hey, this is not really the direction I want to go. Let's change the direction. That's okay as well. And I think that's the important thing to realize, that just because you write it down and that's the goal you want to have, it can have flexibility in it and it should have flexibility in it. Because what's the point if you're not enjoying it? What's the point if you know that, okay, if I don't do this goal and I don't get to that goal, I can hit a different target and that target might be well suited for you around your lifestyle, around your time, of what you want to achieve. Remember, someone else's goals, they're in a different space to you and where you're going, where your goals, they're in a different space to everybody else. So always just focus on what you want to get out of your business, what you need to get out of it. It's not what someone else has done or doing or about to do. They're on a different journey. And even if you were to say, hey, I want to do exactly what they would do, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to enjoy it. And it doesn't necessarily mean that it's actually proven to get the results and doesn't necessarily mean that you physically can do it yourself or you mentally can do it yourself. Let's be honest with ourselves. We're not all born with the same DNA. We're not all born with the same skill sets, with the same brain, brains, with the same anything. And so if you don't have anything that's going to get to that goal faster, it's a massive goal. you've got to know that you're going to put in more work than anybody else to get to that. And you might have another direction you want to go, which goes, this is the faster, more appropriate place that I want to get to over the next few years. So guys, summary, get your goals out, get your, get your focus out, put it in front of you because you're going to need it through this season of ups and downs and undulating You're going to focus— you're going to need the focus of where you want to get to, to stay driven. And I always find that if something doesn't really drive me, I don't do it. It doesn't matter what number on the to-do list it is. I'm not going to do it because I don't see the point of doing it if it doesn't align where I'm going to go. So quick reminder for everybody, simply get those goals out, bring them in front of you, align your to-do list to the goals. Obviously, to-do list might get you down a little rabbit holes here and there, but ensure that the to-do list gets you down there. A great thing is to do this that I always do is the $50 method. If you haven't yet heard about that, what it is, it's a, it's a 4-part process. So you put, put a page, get a piece of blank piece of page, draw a line down the, down the middle, and then down the other side, make basically a cross, a square cross. And in one of those boxes, you're going to write $5. The other box, you're going to write $50, $500, and $5,000. So what you do, you take your tasks that you do every day and you put them in one of those categories. So for example, if you want to call a partner or, you know, start a new partnership, that's a $5,000 task because that might create great leverage for you. If you need to clean your desk, that's a $5 task, no leverage, it's worth $5. designing a social media calendar up for a month, that's a $500 task. Maybe to post on Facebook might be between a $5 to $50 task. So not all tasks are created equal. Focus on the points that you need to do to move forward in your business. Team, that's it for me.
