Getting Raw Ep #31 Selina Scoble and Rana Saini

In this episode of Getting Raw, host Richard Toutounji interviews fitness entrepreneurs Selina Scoble and Rana Saini in Brisbane. Both former Olympians turned personal trainers and business mentors, they discuss the creation and launch of WF Boss, the largest online fitness summit to date. They explain how they leveraged their Olympic mindset, years of industry experience, and a network of global thought leaders to design a two‑week, 30‑speaker online summit aimed at fitness business owners worldwide. The conversation covers the advantages of webinars over traditional live seminars, the evolution of business models from one‑to‑one personal training to one‑to‑many webinars and one‑to‑infinity evergreen products, and the importance of technology, scalability, and community building. They share challenges such as securing skeptical speakers, overcoming doubts, and the need for consistent action. The interview also highlights the summit’s structure – free 20‑minute pre‑summit “taste‑tester” sessions in August, followed by the full summit from September 14‑29, with recordings available for later access. Throughout, they stress the power of surrounding oneself with high‑performing peers, leveraging leverage, and turning knowledge into actionable implementation.

Welcome to Getting Raw. It's Richard and Mark Toutounji, and today I'm in Brisbane. I'm talking to Rani and Selena. Welcome aboard.
Thank you.
Thank you.
And you guys are making history at the moment. You're running the largest online Webinar, is that correct?
Yep, it's an online summit. So basically for fitness business owners all over the world. Yeah.
So this is like the first time that something like this has been done.
Yeah, we we believe so because I mean we there's a lot of webinars that happen.
Yeah.
But the way we've put it together on our particular business model of being able to connect these fitness thought leaders from all over the world, we've got people from from what the UAE. From America, Australia, Singapore,
the
UK.
Everybody.
Everybody.
But let's hear more about you guys because you're an Olympian, 2000, Sydney 2000. Yep. And you're a personal trainer, Vision.
Yep. Started with Vision and then started my own brand of coaching and mentoring for personal trainers. And so, yeah, so built up from there.
And then heading towards the WF Boss.
Yeah. I mean, it basically got to a point for Selena and I, we've basically been in the— Selena's been in the industry for a long time doing coaching. Mm-hmm. And I've been in the fitness industry doing personal training and mentoring up to 10 staff. Yeah. So my studio was doing 380 sessions a week and was doing really well. And I decided that I can help mentor other personal trainers to do the same thing. And I think Selena saw small business as her target. But, you know, I mean— I
mean, we've just finished the Olympics at the moment. We just finished our closing ceremony. How is it to now watch that after competing in it? Yeah. What are we, 12 years ago?
Yeah. Time slips away. A lifetime ago, yeah.
But it must be very close to heart. And then coming now and, you know, getting into giving more back to other people.
Yeah. It, every time I watch the Olympics now, it just makes me realize how massive that achievement was.
Yeah, huge.
And how significant that was. At the time you're just, you know, you're doing what you love and it's like, you know, it's, you don't realize, I didn't, you know, it didn't feel like it.
When you're in the space.
When you're in the space, 'cause you're focused on the job at hand. But then yeah, when you start watching it every 4 years after, you're like, the tears start flowing and the opening ceremony and the memories and just the proud, moment to, you know, represent your country at that level. It's, it's, it can never be taken away from you. Oh, definitely.
It's only a few, a few people can get to that stage. And that's where I guess, um, now getting into your next event, it's like you're bringing your experience, your Olympic experience together, the success you've had in that, the success you've had at running training organizations, and actually bringing them to one platform. Um, and you've got—
We've got nearly 30.
30 speakers around the world. So tell me about— I mean, you know, this is getting where we like to talk about the business side of it. I mean, to actually get an event like this, tell me how do you actually start getting an event planned like this?
Yeah, I guess the first thing, our philosophies are very similar. Like obviously going to the Olympics and being the best of the best and create— I've been an avid entrepreneur now for 10 years and had 5 different businesses and I guess when you get your hands in hands dirty and you're in business. And the biggest lessons I learned, I almost went bankrupt at one stage
and— I bet you learned lessons.
Massive. And, you know, even, you know, I lost my house in the floods in Brisbane last year and did a total rebuild. And there were just some pinnacle moments where one word that's always stuck with me is leverage. And if you're not, the key to thriving these days is adapting and technology's changing so much. If you're not adapting your business to the latest business trends and technologies, you're going to get left behind. So when we were talking and, you know, just the power of the internet and people are really short with time, you know, they don't have enough time. People want more time these days. So, you know, there's some amazing information that you can get at seminars and webinars, but if you've got to fly and you've got the hassle of the travel and time, it's a process. It's a process. You know, time off work and yeah, food, accommodation.
So is that where we're at now? Like, I mean, with seminars, I mean, I've been to a lot of live seminars. Me personally, I've listened to— I mean, I've been involved in webinars. I mean, you guys have asked me to speak at your amazing event, WF Boss. But is that where we're heading now in regards to seminars and webinars? Is it now online the best place to get this?
When I ask personal trainers, so who's your mentor in the industry? A lot of them go, oh, Arnold.
Arnold,
yeah. Or Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman, who are inspirational people in the sense that they've— they're the best at what they do. And Arnold Schwarzenegger is a business owner. I mean, in a sense, he's a great brand. But then we thought, how can we get these amazing thought leaders out there that are almost— some of them are unknown, but just quietly killing it, you know, and get their thought leadership and And expose these secrets to the largest possible group of fitness business owners in the world without them having to travel and everything that we just said.
And we're talking about 10,000 people attending this event.
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, or more.
That's some big numbers. I mean, if you pack a, you know, let's take the Exhibition Center, you get a full room there or— it's quite a lot of people there all online listening.
Yeah. And I guess business always comes down to a numbers game. And I guess that's the power. And I, from doing a lot of seminars and webinars over the last few years in different businesses, you know, you've got to, it's all location-based. So, you know, if you want to go see Richard Branson and Anthony Robbins at the Success Summit, you've got to fly down to Sydney and, you know, all the travel and costs. But, you know, when you can be in the comfort of your own home, sitting in your PJs, and all you have to have is an internet connection, click on a link and you can be watching live.
And we can be sitting here At 2:00 AM in the morning talking with some guy over in the States and have, you know, 50, 60 people logged in. And
I think these days people want solutions. They want, and they want results now.
Yeah.
You know, so people are time poor and we've just found this model to—
Trainers and fitness are very time poor.
Exactly. So it's a, you know, it's just a great leverage model to reach a lot of people at once.
And the thing that we're finding is that because of this model, you know, sometimes they have these diamond tickets and these tickets and if you sit in the back, you can't ever— Oh yeah, yeah.
I've been to all those things.
You can't ever ask the presenter questions. It's like there's this massive disconnect and you spend all this money to go live and you're at this big arena and you're like, you can see them, this little tiny dot. It's like, this is a level playing field. If you want to ask questions direct to the presenter, you just type it in that box and we'll answer on your behalf and acknowledge who you are. And you can get answers in real time from these people. Not only that, but you can get a recording. So if you miss it because you've got a session, you can log in and have access to over 55 sessions and it's all on your iPod now. We've transferred it all to a— what are they, audio? Podcast?
Yeah, podcast. Well, I've just really honestly— I mean, I do videos, but to actually get them on Vodpod and iTunes and that sort of stuff— I know iTunes is there and my friends are saying, get to iTunes, get to iTunes. Literally, I actually really went into iTunes just 2 weeks ago. It's a big secret of mine. I never went into there but the amazing— there's so many cool things online and so much information of really good people online really sitting out with a simple free download click and that sort of stuff. So it's really amazing.
And that's the thing, you know, everyone's— with technology just constantly moving and changing, everyone has got an iPhone or an iPad or Android or something. So we're with them 24/7. So it's a great little—
And I think it's about innovation too. You look at Steve Jobs talking about Apple. He's all about innovating. So it's not— he creates the future that we all step into. You know what I mean? And we thought, how can we think bigger? I mean, this has been a massive job and it's still a big job and we've still got a way to go. To connect with people like Jeffrey Gitomer and Ryan Lee and Pat Riggsby and be able to speak with them and talk with them and then invite people to connect with them and understand that they may seem like these gods that make so much money but they're real people.
Yeah.
And when you can— when you take the time to listen to who they are, you realize that it is just about those simple things, being consistent, innovating your business so not just staying where you are and like, you Making sure that you are constantly thinking big. I mean, that's one thing that you talk about in your seminars too.
I mean, I think it's probably a big part of me having that Olympian mindset still, the habits and the discipline. But I'm always a big believer that the key to getting to the Olympics was surrounding myself with people who were at my level or higher. You know, there's no way I would have made the Olympic team if I'd stayed on my high school team and kept playing with them every day.
That's a really good one. I mean, it's so important.
Yeah. So I've always been a big believer I'm a big believer that, you know, who you surround yourself with is your DNA. So, you know, you've just got to go to the best of the best. If you're serious about success, you have to go and learn from the best of the best. And I guess that's the concept of WF Boss is to get the world's best.
But I mean, these days, as you said, going to the best— I think that's a great analogy. You've got to be around better people than you to make yourself better. But I mean, what you guys are doing is pretty much bringing everybody at their mouse, their computer, their lounge room. So it makes it so easy. It makes it so easy today. I mean, online, your event, events online, it's so easy now you can actually do this, which is— there's no excuse really.
Exactly.
And you realize that when you sit on these sessions and you listen to them, and a lot of them have actually given their PowerPoint presentation to us too, so you can download that with it and you can see. But it's actually to acknowledge that you aren't doing much differently to them. They're just people who think, like I said, think bigger, they're consistent and they are driven. So
do you reckon that's been the— you've had it at the moment, you're going through a pre-summit. So the pre-summit, basically anybody can attend for free.
It's all free.
Taste testers.
Taste testers.
20-minute taste testers for what the summit is going to— so that people can try before you buy. There's no commitment to—
100% value.
And what has been the biggest, I guess, I mean, the secrets, is that— is it being consistent? Is that the secret?
There's been some common themes, definitely. Some, definitely some common themes and foundations that keep getting repeated so far. Yeah.
I mean, just to even look back on what we've done, we had this thought about, I mean, thinking big and it seems so impossible, but it was just about picking up the phone and it was just about, you know, making calls to people and, you know, I was just saying before we started the interview that everybody, some of these big-name people, everyone said no to us about being part of it because it's never been done before. Oh, it won't work, and the doubters. We had to overcome that. It's great because Selena and I bounce off each other. I think if I was doing it on my own, I might have gone, you know what? You're right, and maybe whittled away. We've had those moments where we've had to bring each other up. It is about your team and it is about the people you work with. But I mean, once you get one person on and then you get the flow, it's like, and you talk about fitness business owners who are obviously watching this today, it's so much about thinking bigger than everyone else.
And believing, you know, we were just so passionate. We saw this model work in another industry and we just went, no, this is just, this is the way we've got to go. This is how we can deliver value in maximum capacity in the most leveraged way, in a no-brainer way too.
Well, I think it's amazing. It's a really good opportunity and, you know, we do a lot of Getting Raw interviews, we speak to a lot of business owners and everybody gives information, don't they? Everybody's giving the secrets out there, nobody's hiding anything back. So I guess if we can't just grab it and use it, there's really something wrong.
Yeah, and the thing is, is like I think people are listening and waiting for this magic piece of advice that they're going to suddenly hear and then go bam, I'll I'll make $1 million. But when you talk to these people, you go, you know, knowledge is great, but now I've actually got to do something. And it's being able to implement and take action on it.
So how do we implement it? There's got to be something that we can just go, right, we want to implement it.
That's the hard part, isn't it? It's just getting off your ass, really. There are times where you don't want to pick up the phone because you're scared about what someone will say, or you don't want to make that call or do that email. It's just about going, bam, do it.
Yeah, awesome. What's been the biggest, I guess, struggles of getting this event up? What's been the hard things?
Well, the first thing, like Ryan said before, was just, you know, we selected, you know, because we handpicked all our presenters. So when we did our research and we figured out who we wanted and we started approaching them, the first one was obviously the knockbacks going, nah, we've kind of seen something like this And we got burnt last time. Yeah, sure. You know, so, you know, you had to— we had to just overcome that. And then we had Brian Grasso come on first.
Right.
And he's like, I love this. I think this is— I'm in love. I want to do this. I'm on board 100%.
Yep.
And he's been fantastic. And then we went back to some other people and said, hey, BG's on board. And, you know, we want to re-ask you again. And, you know, and then eventually it was— it was within a 24-hour period. We're the dreamers now.
Everyone said no.
And then all of a sudden—
I think that's really good. I mean, it's really about consistency and having a massive dream and being able to commit and do it. And then you start one, you start, and it keeps going in.
Yeah, it's funny. Again, another Olympic analogy of— I know for myself, and I know every athlete I've spoken to who's gone to the Olympics and even won gold medals, one of the keys to their success has been being able to visualize your success before it actually happens.
Yep.
So seeing yourself go through the race or play that game out and see you, see yourself take victory.
Yeah.
So actually play that movie in your head. And I guess that's, you know, a big part of success, that belief and that confidence that I'm going to do this, I will do this. You know, those affirmations and having that clarity on exactly what it is, the intention that you're crafting. And sticking with that. And
it's about
being
brave. I mean, we know that like some, like innovation is scary because it's new.
Very scary.
It's unheard of and you take a massive risk. So some of our presenters has never even done a webinar before.
Oh, it's great. I've done a couple of webinars now and it really is easy and it's very effective. And time is great because, you know, you got to present at a seminar, it will take you 2 days and webinar, bang, you can pretty much do it in your pajamas.
Yeah, you can still have—
Actually, I did mine in my pajamas. I was in a Melbourne hotel room and it was early, so yeah.
We've come in here at 1 AM because of the New York time and I've come in, you know, with my hoodie on, it's cold, unshaven, you're like, if I was seen live right now. But you know, it's, it's the, that's the cool thing. Like, and I think, you know, fitness businesses out there, you know, Selena talks about it in her presentation and you spoke about just in the pre-summit just now, but you know, that one-to-one, which is the biggest issue with our industry. It's like, it's so time-consuming and laborious. And if you don't work, you don't get paid. And what you can do with a webinar is do one-to-many. So you can, you can charge a little bit less, but then you're working with more people and you can actually earn more in that hour.
Yeah. And I think that's what we can, you know, Even if personal trainers can actually see this and actually use it for their own business, for their own clients, what a great tool.
That's what I found, I guess. I run a program called the Small Business Masterminds before I started with WF Boss. And just what I found is the key to successful business is your business model. And like Ryan was saying, you know, there's 3 ways to sell. You're one-to-one, you're one-to-many, and you're one-to-infinity. And I've found from coming into the fitness industry with WF Boss is that, yeah, there's a lot of trainers and fitness business owners who are time poor because they're in a one-to-one model majority of the time.
And maybe one-to-many, but we're not one-to-infinity.
Yeah. So understanding, you know, one-to-many, you can, you know, seminars, webinars, teleconferences, and then the one-to-infinity is doing the work once but getting paid over and over again.
Which is when you record a webinar. For example, it's an evergreen product, you know, no matter what happens, you can, you can sell it forever. Yeah, that information becomes locked. And we are doing that one-to-one work, but creating that one-to-many with the webinar and the one-to-infinity because everything's recorded and therefore it becomes a product. So when you do one-to-one,
how
about you film it and do a webcast, you know, and then record it and then sell it for $39 to people?
It's the way of the future, definitely.
It's just shifting, I think, the mentality of—
Yeah. I mean, it is changing. It is changing and it's changing the way we accept online things and use them and more people value them more now. So I think it's just going to get better and better and better as we go.
A good resource for fitness business owners to have a look at is— we didn't get him this time but we spoke to him and he's really busy, but BJ Glover, I think it is. He has a fitness business which is which is all online called StreamFit.
Right.
And it's just him streaming workouts constantly. You subscribe to it and that's that one to infinity, one to many. And he doesn't, I mean, he's doing really well. So like it's, and he's ahead of his time in that sense.
Yeah.
You know, so it's great being able to talk with these people because you get these ideas too and surrounding yourself with these people. And, um, and for what we're out to create for the industry, it's also the biggest thing and what's Probably closest to my heart is that you're uniting people. You're bringing them together, which means that there's no scarcity mentality about don't talk to my clients, get away from my business. It's now, well, I'm presenting and I'm contributing and I'm contributing and I'm contributing. And then when everyone contributes, you've got more sort of there to—
I think too, like any business owner, whether it's fitness industry or in general, I think can feel alone.
Yes, definitely.
Feel like, oh my gosh, am I the only one that's stressing out and freaking out? And I think we've created a forum, we've created social media sites. So we also, as another value add, are bringing people together from all around the world to talk to each other and share ideas and feedback and comments around the sessions. So it's building a tribe and building a community.
Oh, that's great. Listen, this can go forever, but I think I've got to get you guys separate as well and do another one of each because there's so much content. There's so much really good content. We can talk more about Olympic moments and we can talk more about the coaching that you do as well. So we'll definitely get these guys back on the couch. But for more information, I'm going to put all the information on the screen here. Pretty much the event starts soon this week, doesn't it? The launch?
We're halfway through the process. pre-summit, which is the month of August, where there are complimentary 20-minute taster sessions from every presenter. And the full summit starts on the 14th of September and goes for 2 weeks until the 29th. Okay, so
it's not just all on one day, it's spread over
a
2-week period.
Yeah.
And if you do say register now, I mean, you can access all the recordings, the ones you missed and everything.
Excellent. All right, I'll make sure I have all the details here. There's, as I said, everything's in the recordings, everything's there anyway, so we'll get all the details on the screen. That'll be good. Thank you so much. It's been a pleasure. We'll do some more interviews too, but thanks a lot, guys. And I'm speaking at the summit as well, so I'll put my times down there as well, and we can all click on and listen to everybody around the
world. Yeah.
Thank you.
Thanks, guys.
