A recruiter outlines three options when someone says they're not hiring: the candidate leaves and you help find a new role, the company needs to scale and you help hire, or the candidate upskills for promotion. One of these three things will happen.
I do a 3-way pitch on that meeting where I say, look, typically when I meet with candidates in your position, it goes one of 3 ways. There's no way to grow at your company and you need to get out now. We help you find a job. The other way is you're just overwhelmed and you need to hire within the team to scale up, and we can help you with that. Or the third way is you need to upskill, learn something new, so then you can get a promotion internally. Because you can either leave, get promoted, or scale the team. Those are really the only 3 things. So let's talk about it, see what makes sense. By the end of that call, if they decide, hey, look, we need to hire, then you can run with that.
