In this brief motivational video, the speaker introduces the "Michelangelo phenomenon" as a mindset for seeing and nurturing the best qualities in others. He recounts the historical anecdote of Michelangelo’s creation of the statue David, emphasizing how Michelangelo claimed the figure was already present in the marble and he merely removed the excess. The speaker uses this story as a metaphor for focusing on the positive, angelic aspects of people rather than their flaws. He urges listeners to apply this perspective not only to loved ones but also to acquaintances or even those who irritate them, suggesting that uplifting others can create a ripple effect of positivity throughout the week.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, March— April? April 27th. Wow. May is coming up this week. Crazy. All right. Your moment of yes for April 27th is the idea, if you guys have heard of it, it's called the Michelangelo phenomenon. And where that comes from is obviously we know that that goes back to Michelangelo carving David, statue David. Now, when the, when the original, uh, not David per se, but the original slab of marble that was commissioned was for an artist, uh, 100 years previous before Michelangelo carved David. And so, uh, this artist, um, uh, had the marble, um, kind of, uh, taken out and, uh, started working on the project and then gave up and said that the marble was too soft and brittle. And I gave up on the work. 25 years later, another artist took on the project. He also gave up. And so that slab of marble that was seen as too soft and too brittle sat for over 100 years until Michelangelo was commissioned, and of that he created David. Now, I'd always heard the great quote, um, uh, when, uh, someone asked him, hey, how did you carve David? And he said, David was in there the entire time. I just removed all the marble that wasn't David. And so the way that I heard it recently was Michelangelo was asked about David, and he said, in the marble, I saw the angel the entire time, and then all I did was remove all the unnecessary marble. Thus this idea of the Michelangelo phenomenon, which is when we look and see the best in somebody. And instead of focusing on all the things that we don't like, instead of focusing on the negative aspects, we just continue to see and uplift them because we see that wholeness, that perfection, we see the angel inside. And by lifting someone up, by seeing them that way, and then reinforcing that we see that in them, we then lift up the people around us. instead of tearing them down. So your moment of yes for this week, as we attack the week, and I attack the week in the most peaceful of ways, is that we strive to see the Michelangelo phenomenon in not only the people that we love and care about, that's super important, but in the people around us that maybe we don't know, maybe annoy us, and have given us maybe issues in the past. Let's put some Michelangelo phenomenon on them. And that's your moment of yes for today. Have a great day and week, everyone.
