In this brief motivational video, the speaker reflects on a recent staff debrief after a national team camp, highlighting the challenge of handling diverse player personalities. He contrasts reactive responses—characterized by frustration and negativity—with proactive strategies that involve front‑end planning, building tailored support systems, and setting expectations. The speaker argues that increased proactivity reduces emotional reactivity, leading to more positive, patient interactions both on the team and in personal life (home, parenting, work). He introduces the concept of a "respond" mindset, where individuals consciously choose their response rather than reacting emotionally. The talk concludes with a lighthearted note about it being “shave day,” encouraging listeners to have a great day.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Wednesday, April 7th. I hope your day has gotten off to a good start. So here we go. A moment of yes for today is actually inspired by a conversation that we had sort of on our debrief call yesterday. So we had a 2-hour Zoom call yesterday sort of debriefing our most recent national team camp. And it's always a great opportunity for everyone on the staff to think about how we can do things better, where we did really well, but always kind of fine-tuning the machine as we kind of go from camp to camp. And one of the issues that came up was how do you deal with specific players? There's just obviously a team of different personalities and how to address some players that struggle with certain personalities and how can we How can we address it better? What we noticed was, is that during this camp, there were a few times where we were more reactive than we were being proactive. Reactive was the responses tended to be negative and frustrated compared to being proactive, which is putting the work in on the front end to help mitigate these issues from becoming bigger than they are, dealing with different personalities. Now that we're starting to understand different players' personalities better, understanding what we can do proactively to build support systems around them, to give them the attention that they need based on their personality. I loved, the more and more we talked about it, it was really this approach of the more proactive you are, the less reactive you're going to be, the less emotionally frustrated you get, the less negative you're going to be. Thinking about that for myself, In my own personal life, whether it's, you know, things going on at home or things with the kids or just things with my work, I know the cert— I know the different frustrations that, that come up. I— and I know why those frustrations come up. And so if I can be more proactive, which, which when I'm proactive, I tend to be more positive, I tend to be more patient. It's not a matter of like if this happens, it's when it happens. And so when this happens, Here's how I'm going to respond, or I'm going to do this on the front end to make sure maybe this doesn't happen to the extent that it's happened in the past. And so that idea of being proactive instead of reactive. And when we do catch ourselves being reactive, can we be in a respond mindset instead of a reaction mindset? Remember, respond— you choose your response. A reaction tends to be more emotional and unconscious. Yeah, there you have it. That's your moment of yes for today. It's shave day. Yeah, you can see it. Have a great day, everybody.
