A Moment of YES: August 18th

A framework for deciding what's worth your time: the work itself must be valuable, you must be adding value through your talents, and you must feel valued in return. Use it to cut loose what drains you.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Friday, August 18th. How's everyone doing today? All right, so my word for the year for myself is value, right? And so there's 3 kind of criteria to that idea, and I want to share it with you today, and, and maybe it's helpful for anything that you're dealing with. So my word for the year was value, meaning, uh, I want the work that I do to be valuable. I want to feel valued, right? And I want to get valued, meaning whether that's compensation or just appreciation or knowing that my participation or my contribution, right, is valued, right, by others. So there's the work itself. I want it to have value. There's me, my talents, my abilities. I want to be adding value. And then the third part is wanting to feel valued in return. Again, that's not necessarily compensation, but just like, hey, right, is this, is this a place where, where I'm welcome and people want me to be? And so as I've been working through some things the last few weeks, this came back to me and I was like, oh, you know what, I think if I look at it through these 3 criteria, maybe one of them is there, maybe 2 is there, but maybe the 3rd component isn't there. In some cases, that's going to be okay. You know, I'm going to do work where I'm not compensated but I feel valued. I'm going to do work where I I add a lot of value and maybe others don't appreciate it, but I feel good. What you don't want to have is a combination where maybe you don't even think the work that you're doing has value, you're not being compensated in return, there's no appreciation. That's kind of an opportunity where you might want to be like, is this where I need to spend my time? And if the answer is yes, the question would be, why do I feel like I have to keep spending my time here? So just something to ponder today. Often when we're kind of feeling stuck or unmotivated or not wanting to do something, maybe we can think about it from the standpoint of those 3 value criteria. And there you have it. That's your moment of yes. Have an awesome Friday and an awesome weekend, everybody.
