A Moment of YES: August 31st

Two drivers stopped to help an unhoused person on a downtown street, one with an umbrella, one with food. The speaker watched a chaotic soccer match where players kept competing despite a red card and bad calls. We choose what to focus on each day, good or bad, and that choice is yours to make.

Whoops! Good morning everyone, here's your Moment of Yes for Thursday, August 31st, last day of August. I got off schedule again, I got my Monday in but didn't get one to you guys on Wednesday so here you are on Thursday. Your Moment of Yes for today is, what do you see? So, I was driving downtown yesterday And on the on-ramp, there was an unhoused person kind of like just standing out at the stoplight, looking for donations or whatever. And so I pulled behind 2 cars and the first car rolled the window down and gave the woman an umbrella, right? It was like really hot sun. They gave her an umbrella. I'm like, oh, that was super nice. All of a sudden, second car in front of me put their window down. And hands like a McDonald's bag. I'm like, oh, that's awesome. I didn't have anything to give, so as I drove by, I just kind of gave her like a, you know, a nice warm smile and a head nod. But it just got me thinking that the idea is like, so often I go and I look at, you know, how many people are not doing something, or the fact that they're unhoused to begin with, and, you know, the big problems and this, and this leads to this, and look at all the— Look at all the negativity I can look at. But in that moment, I was like, wow, isn't this great? Right? 2 cars right in a row, both of them taking the opportunity to do something, to give, to be compassionate. And so what do I look at? Right? Do I look at the negativity of the situation or do I look at the good that is going on in that moment? Right. So the question always comes back to What are we looking at? What do we see? You know, I was— FC Dallas had a game in St. Louis last night, and it was a crazy game with an early red card, and the referee was pretty inconsistent and bad. And, you know, you're kind of like sitting in the middle of this, and I'm like, oh wow, what do I see, right? Do I see all the negativity of what's going on, or am I recognizing how the players are adapting, how the players are continuing to fight? And compete. And so we always have the choice of what we're actually focusing on and what we're looking at, because we ultimately get to decide what we see. So as you go through your day today, where you'll be confronted with good, bad, and everything in between, just decide for yourself, choose for yourself what you're going to look at, what you decide to see. That's your moment of yes for today, everybody. Have an awesome day.
