In this motivational monologue recorded in Los Angeles on August 31st, the speaker introduces the concept of distinguishing between skill‑based and will‑based challenges when trying to improve aspects of one’s life. He recounts a conversation with a friend who asked whether a particular issue is a matter of skill or will, and expands the idea to common goals such as healthier eating, exercising, patience, communication, and authenticity. The core message is that many obstacles are will‑based, requiring discipline, intention, and consistency rather than new talent. The speaker ends with a call‑to‑action, urging listeners to identify a personal area where they feel stuck and decide whether it calls for building a disciplined routine (will) or acquiring a new skill.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your Moment of Yes for Wednesday, August 31st. Last day of August. Can you believe it? Tomorrow, September. Again, life is on fast forward. I don't know if it feels the same for you, but things are on fast forward. So, out here in Los Angeles for today. Got here yesterday morning, head home tomorrow. All good, but busy, busy, busy, busy. It's funny, I finished filming The Moment of Yes— when was that? Monday morning— and ran into a friend while getting coffee. And we were sitting, we were talking, we were catching up, and I can't even remember what we were talking about. And he said, is it a skill thing or a will thing? And I was like, what? He goes, yeah. He goes, so I asked— he said he was talking to one of his kids, and he said, is that a skill or a will issue? And I love that idea, right? Which, because so, so many things in our life, the things that, that we want to improve on, get better on, or just show up and, and be our more authentic purpose, you know, it's what is preventing us from doing that. Is it skill-based or is it will-based? And I think most of us agree that it's, it's will-based, meaning it doesn't actually require Any additional skill. It doesn't require talent. It just requires our ability to be disciplined, our ability to, and to be consistent. Whether you're talking about eating cleaner, exercising more, being more patient, being a better communicator, being all of these different things, are those skills that you're lacking, or is it a willingness or setting intention, being more aware, right? Which is really more of a will thing. Skill over will. So my moment of yes for today, my challenge for you is to think about what is, what is an area that you're looking to improve upon, but you keep getting stuck? And is it just a matter of maybe building a more disciplined routine, or do you need to actually develop an actual skill in that area? Now that requires some will as well. So here you go. Skill or will, which is it for you? Have an awesome day, everybody.
