A Moment of YES: August 3rd

Every activity, from sports to music to theater, is a "big con" that attracts people so you can teach them values and life skills. The host led a culture-building workshop for coaches at Principia School and challenges you to identify your own con and the influence you want to have.

Hey, good morning everyone. Here's your moment of yes for Thursday, August 3rd. Got a little bit of haircut, keeping the length on the top, just trimming up the sides and back, right? Crazy scientist look went a little bit too far, but here we go. Hey, today on Thursday, if you're getting this before 12:30 Eastern time, check me out on LinkedIn, Limitless Minds on LinkedIn. And we'll be doing the Limitless Minds Live today with Colin Henderson from 12:30 to 1:00. Yeah, it's Thriving Thursday. We're talking about how to make elite environments. Yeah, there we go. All right, your moment of yes for today is it's all a big con. That's right. So I had a couple of sessions yesterday, one with a company around how to build intentional culture. And then I went to the Principia School. My brother's the athletic— my brother-in-law is the athletic director. So he had all the coaches in for a 3-hour workshop today about the culture, building culture. So he had me kind of wrap up the last 30 minutes of the day on intentional culture building. And one of the things I said to the coaches was, really everything that we do is just a big con, right? Whatever your sport is, it doesn't matter, right? It doesn't matter if the kids are in music. It doesn't matter if they're in sports. It doesn't matter if they're in your classroom. It doesn't matter what they are. It's all a big con. And obviously I don't mean that in a negative way. I mean that in a positive way, which is whatever you are passionate about and whatever your thing is, whenever you, whoever the students are, whoever the employees are, whoever the people are who are a part of your thing and you're sort of in charge, the con is that they think it's about the thing when you really know that it's about the qualities, the values, the impact that you're able to have on them by using that thing as a tool, right? Using it as a positive tool. Whether you're a soccer coach, soccer is the thing. The con is you're teaching them all these life skills, hopefully using the game of soccer. If you're a music teacher, you're using music. Theater teacher, you're using theater. Shout out to Jesse and Frank, right? So whatever your thing is, that's what attracts the people in. And then it is the impact you have on them as a person, which is the real impact they will remember in their lives, right? How many of them are actually going to go on to do that thing? Those who do, awesome. Most of them won't, but they'll remember the impact that you had on their life. So my question for you is, what is your con, right? What is your con? What's the thing that you're into? And then think about what is that impact or influence I'm hoping to have on those people in my lives. And this guy here, so concerned about when I'm done and where am I going. Hey, that's your moment of yes for today. Have an awesome con, everybody.
