A Moment of YES: August 7th

Lionel Messi's comeback in the Inter Miami vs. Dallas match shows the power of elevating others. An improv principle applies everywhere: make your partner look like a genius. When you focus on making teammates and colleagues shine instead of yourself, you create a cycle where everyone wins.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, August 7th. Is summer over? I mean, just dropped off Holland and Shepherd, first day of sports camp, right? They have a week of sports camp and then school starts a week from today. Nuts, right? So, uh, yeah, it kind of feels like, at least for them, the summer is over. Um, so your moment of yes for today, August 7th: messy mania, messy magic. Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi, Messi. Once again, last night watching Inter Miami versus Dallas in Dallas. I'm working for FC Dallas, and even though being up 4-2 with 20 minutes to go, uh, Inter Miami and then the magic of Messi found a way to tie it and then win in PKs. Just one of the craziest games, um, I've ever seen. And again, It's all because of messy. It's all because of messy. You know, for years I would always use the example with kids, right? And, you know, using the improv mantra, right? Your goal is, is to make your partner look like a genius. So if you took that mindset onto the field as an athlete, your goal is to make the people around you better. If you took that into your marriage, if you took that into your family, if you took that into your corporate office, your job— Is to make the people around you look and feel like a genius, look and feel brilliant. So by that rationale, you're not just thinking about what, what can I do to look good? How can I make others around me look good? And who doesn't want to play with that person? Who doesn't want to work with that person? Who doesn't want to be in a relationship with the person, the person who is constantly thinking of others, right? So So as I dropped the boys off today and they gave me their word, their word for the day, and I just reminded them, I just remember, right? It's human nature, especially in a situation like this, that every kid is just going to be thinking about themselves, right? Because that's what we do, right? Especially new school year or sports teams. Like, we're so in our own heads, we're just thinking about ourselves. And like, be, you know, be the guy, right, who is looking for opportunities include other people, looking for opportunities to make other players look good. And so for ourselves, it's the same thing. How often are we going through our day looking for opportunities to take care of the people around us, to make them look good, to take care of their needs? Not in a way where we're not having our needs met, because that's kind of the beautiful thing. The more we kind of— when, when we stick our neck out for someone, they're going to want to do the same thing for us. When we compliment someone, when we support someone's ideas, they're going to want to reciprocate that and do the same for us. That's human nature. So your needs will be taken care of at the same time in abundance. So there you go. Make others look brilliant. That's your moment of yes for today. Have an awesome day, everybody.
