In this short motivational address, the speaker introduces a reflective exercise called the “3 H’s” – hero, hardship, and highlight – encouraging listeners to consider who inspired them, what challenges they faced, and what they are proud of from 2021. He shares his own answers: his heroes are his three children and his partner Hollister; his hardship is the extensive time spent away from home due to national‑team duties; his highlights include personal family milestones and professional successes such as winning two national‑team trophies and contributing to a record‑breaking World Cup qualifying campaign. The talk ends by inviting the audience to perform the same reflection for the past year and look forward to repeating it in 2022.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, December 27th. It is the last week of of 2021. We are close to 2022, and so this is this tends to be a reflective week for each of us if if you haven't begun to do so already. So it got me thinking about the moment of yes for today, and this is something we've done with the national team as guys get to know one another. But it's a great reflection tool as well, and it's the The 3 H's: hero, hardship, and highlight. So, when we think about the last year, 2021, right? Who's been your hero? What's been your hardship? And what's been your highlights? So, a great way. So, for me, I would say my hero or heroes, I would have to say probably the kids. For all 3 of them, sort of choosing and also being pushed outside their comfort zone at different times. Holland choosing to go to Principia and, uh, and, and really doing well in his first semester. Uh, Trinity, uh, transitioning into, um, college as well as being a full-time counselor, um, uh, at camp this summer and how that forced her to grow. Uh, Shepherd, uh, growing into his teenageness, uh, as well as having to deal with a broken wrist last year, um, and being the only child at home, which is which is an adjustment. And of course, Hollister, for everything that she does from, from maintaining the house and the work and me being away so much. And again, a lot of that hardship is me being away from home, um, uh, so much. So those are my heroes. The hardship for me is— was being away from home as much as, as I was with the team and work. Um, and, uh, but grateful at how Hollister and everyone was able to balance that. And the highlights, I think the highlights from this year are, you know, the highlights. I think all the kids had amazing highlights. For me individually, I think it's probably, you know, winning 2 trophies that the national team won over the summer and then being right in the thick of things with World Cup qualifying and being the, you know, most wins for a US national team ever. So that's been— those have been some fun highlights. So what about you? Your moment of yes for today is to is to reflect on that. Reflect on your heroes, hardships, and highlights for your 2021, and know 2022, we get to do it all over again. Have an awesome day, everybody.
