In this brief motivational address delivered on January 18, 2021, the speaker frames Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a pivotal moment to move beyond passive admiration of Dr. King’s legacy toward concrete personal actions that embody his ideals of unity, peace, and demanding change. The speaker emphasizes that merely sharing quotes or videos is insufficient; individuals must translate inspiration into tangible steps, even if uncomfortable. As a concrete cultural touchstone, the speaker recommends the Amazon Prime film One Night in Miami, which dramatizes a night among Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown, illustrating personal struggle and collective purpose. The overall message urges listeners to identify one or two actionable deeds that promote unity, peace, and change in their daily lives.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, January 18th, 2021. So today is a, is a big day. It is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the United States. I can't think of a better day to be celebrating and putting a spotlight on as we move into the inauguration here midweek. And so today you're going to see lots of social media posts with Dr. King quotes. You're going to see videos. I have the Dream Speech. You're going to see all these amazing things and works and quotes and video of Dr. King, as you should and as we should. But what's more important is, is how are we individually now living that message? How are we— it's about unity. It's about peace. It's about demanding change. But that has to take place in our actions. You know, it's not just about— as I slide the tripod here— it's not just about being able to go, wow, what an awesome guy. His work was really powerful, and then go about our business. And so today is all about let's take the inspiration and turn it into action. Right. Let's take the inspiration of Dr. King and everything that he stood for and the messages that, that he has sort of laid out and the path to do so. But it only matters if we take individual action. So what is one thing you can do today, or 2 little things that you can do today that promote unity, that promote peace, that promote change, even if one or 2 of those things are uncomfortable? I highly recommend the film that's on Amazon Prime right now, which is called One Night in Miami. It's based on true events. It follows Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Samuel Cooke, And Jim Brown, all one night after Muhammad Ali won the heavyweight championship in Miami. And it focuses on their relationship, the struggles that they're going through individually. And it's a pretty— it was a play first, and now it's a movie, and really, really powerfully done. And so, great watch today or anytime. But let's see what we can do individually to take action. How can we not just celebrate the person, but actually embody and further the cause? Have a great day, everyone. That's your moment of yes.
