In this short motivational video, speaker Travis Thomas delivers his "moment of yes" for Friday, July 29th. Drawing on recent work with Limitless Minds, a soccer resilience talk, and a coaching call with a player who lost his starter status, he challenges the common habit of asking how we feel before a performance. He argues that emotions—confidence or fear—do not determine outcomes; instead, what matters is where we focus our attention. By directing focus toward concrete actions, intentions, and the "next right step," we can act effectively even when afraid. Thomas emphasizes that courage exists alongside fear, and that feeling fear can be an opportunity for courageous action. The talk concludes with a call to shift from feeling‑based questions to behavior‑based ones, encouraging listeners to get unstuck by concentrating on purposeful actions rather than emotions.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Friday, July 29th. Can you believe it? July is almost over. What in the world is going on? It goes so fast, doesn't it? It goes so fast. All right, your moment of yes for today is this week I've been doing a lot of videos for Limitless Minds as well as a talk I gave the other night for Soccer Resilience. And so much of it is on pressure and fear and nerves. I had a coaching call yesterday with a player who is dealing with a lack of confidence. First time in his life he's not the starter, he's not the man, and now it's like, oh shoot, like this is different, it's weird. And so what I've been talking about this week is how often we ask people and we ask ourselves, how do I feel? Or how do you feel? And we put so much weight and importance on emotions. And again, how I feel is important, but we tend to ask someone how they feel before they have a task to do. Right before a game, hey, how do you feel? Because if they're nervous, that must be bad. If they're confident, that must be good. The reality is confidence doesn't guarantee success, nor does fear guarantee failure. And so you ask your child before a test, hey, how are you feeling today? And they're like, I feel great. And then they go and flunk the test. Or like, I was scared to death and I aced it. So is confidence— to feel confident, does that— is that good? Yeah, I would rather feel confident than afraid. But the reality is emotions don't equal outcomes, right? Emotions don't equal outcomes. What's more important for us to ask others Including ourselves, is not how do I feel or how do you feel, is what are you focused on? What are you thinking about? Right? I can be afraid and thinking about the actions that I need to focus on, and I'm probably going to be successful. I can be super confident. And if I'm just like, I'm so confident, I don't even need to think about what I need to do, I kind of set myself up for failure. So what we want to do is we want to focus on, again, behaviors and actions, not emotions and outcomes. And so, um, uh, it's, it's, it's, it's— that's why setting our, setting our intention is so important. It's not about how you feel, it's what you are focused on. And so if we can do that, that actually helps us get unstuck. Unstuck is when we're— when we're stuck, we're focused on our feelings. And so I'm afraid, so I don't want to take action. I can be afraid but still thinking about, well, here's the next right step I need to take. So take that next right step. Remember, courage without fear is not courage. So when we're afraid, that's our opportunity to be courageous. That's your moment of yes for today, everybody. Have an awesome day.
