In this short motivational talk, the speaker shares a daily Enneagram insight that the body is always anchored in the present while the mind drifts to past or future thoughts. He argues that focusing on breath and bodily sensations can pull us back to the now. Translating this into performance coaching, he advises athletes and teams to replace abstract, outcome‑focused thinking with concrete, action‑oriented behaviors—typically two or three specific actions to execute during a game or practice. By concentrating on these immediate actions, the mind shifts from over‑thinking to doing, reducing overwhelm and increasing presence. He extends the same principle to everyday life, suggesting people break down daily to‑do lists into single, actionable steps (e.g., clean one room, answer emails, bring joy to an interaction). Finally, he offers two supplemental YouTube videos—a conceptual explanation and a guided activity—available via a Patreon thread, intended to help viewers set up a pre‑activity or daily mindset ritual.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your Moment of Yes for Friday, March 11th. So, I was just reading my daily Enneagram email that I get, and it was reminding— it says, your heart and your mind isn't always in the present moment, but your body is. And I love that idea of thinking about the reason that focusing on our breath brings us back to the present moment. Feeling your feet grounded, feeling it right now as I kind of like squeeze my toes into the rug, right? Our body is always in the present moment. And so our thoughts, we know 60, or actually 40,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day, less than 50% of those are thinking about the present moment. They're either in the past or the future. But where is our body? Our body is always in the present moment. Our body is always now. When I work with athletes, I always talk about the game is always happening now, not then, not when, but right here, right now. And so our task is to constantly think about what can I do right now, right? Action-oriented instead of being overwhelmed by the thoughts, the stuff, what needs to be done, all of the steps that need to happen, compared to focusing on what are the actions that I can take right now. So again, working with athletes and working with teams, when I'm working with an athlete who's going to be playing, I don't want them thinking about anything that is sort of abstract or is outcome-related. I'll ask them, what are 2 or 3 actions— emphasis on actions— what are 2 or 3 actions or behaviors you can focus on that will allow you to be effective? And so as they think about actions, they'll be like, okay, if I can win a lot of tackles, yes. If I can switch the attack, switch the ball, yes. If I can win head balls, yes. Those are actions. I said, okay, just go focus on those 2 or 3 things and let everything else take care of itself. Because when we give ourselves actions or behaviors of what to do, it takes us out of the mindset of thinking and it puts us into the mindset of doing. And when we are doing, we are present moment. Thinking gets us in the past or the future. Focusing on behaviors and actions actually gets us In motion. It gets us moving forward, and then what's so overwhelming becomes less overwhelming. So whether it's thinking about today, thinking about a list of so many things that you have to do today, instead of going, all right, I'm going to focus on cleaning one room in the house, or I'm going to focus on getting through all of my emails, or every interaction I have with, with someone today, I am going to try to get them to laugh, to bring out some joy, right? You're giving yourselves You're giving yourself behavior, action-oriented things. And when we focus on actions, we focus on what is actually happening right here, right now. We become less distracted with the past or the future, the then or the when thinking. Okay, last bonus. Since this is Friday, I'm going to include 2 links in today's thread. And this is an activity I have done this a lot as a written activity. I did this for over a year as a written activity in 2019 and saw a drastic transformation in my life. But I've been working with athletes of how to do this pregame. So there's going to be 2 videos on YouTube. One is an explanation from me, and the second one is me guiding you through the actual activity. Ideas that we've talked about before, but this is more about sort of kind of setting your day or setting yourself before an activity. That'll be included in the thread for this, for today's Moment of Yes on Patreon. So that's it, guys. Have an awesome weekend. I'll see you guys on Monday. Bye.
