A Moment of YES: March 9th

A speaker reflects on how our relationship with sleep changes from childhood enthusiasm to adult snoozing, arguing we waste mornings by sleeping in. He urges listeners to reclaim that childlike eagerness for each day and stay awake, literally and metaphorically, to seize opportunities rather than drift through life.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, March 9th, I think. Raise your eyebrows if someone got burned yesterday. This guy. Uh, it feels good to be back in Jupiter, in the warmth, out of the Midwest, out of the cold. Um, so your moment of yes for today: remember when you were like a child and sleeping in? You just never slept in. You woke up And it was like, let's go. I can't wait to attack the day. I need to explore. I need to learn. And then you become a teenager, maybe a middle schooler, teenager, into your college years. And you're like, I can't wait to sleep in. Let me hit that snooze alarm. Even into your 20s. Oh man, a good sleep in on the weekend. Oh, so awesome. Then you have kids and it's not an option anymore. And you just, oh, it would be amazing if you could sleep in. But you can't. Then your kids get a little bit older, and then it's like, oh, actually, maybe you occasionally can sleep in, but you don't. And now, um, I find myself at the age where, um, you know, being able to sleep in is nice, but I, I notice myself, like, when I do have a sleep-in, and that might be like, you know, oh my gosh, I slept until 8 o'clock, 8:30, I go through the rest of the day, I'm like, what a waste. I can't believe I, I did that. I wasted that morning, or I wasted time. And I'm like, oh, I'm actually excited. I don't want to sleep in anymore. I want to get up. I want to do things. Or even if I'm doing things, it's just I want to be and do nothing, but I want to be awake. I don't want to be asleep. And so, um, because also I think I'm like, oh wow, like life is unpredictable. There's nothing— don't take anything for granted. Like wake up, get up. Be alive. And so my moment of yes for today is whether you want to tap into that childlike spirit of, I can't wait to see what this world has for me or this life has for me, or to be older and just be like, hey, I'm going to take advantage of just every day and every opportunity that I get. You know, the occasional sleep-in to recharge the battery is fine, but let's not waste our way late, waste our life away being unconscious. And we can be unconscious while we're conscious. So let's be awake. Let's get awake. Let's stay awake. And let's see what we can bring to the world today. That's your moment of yes for today. Have an awesome week, everyone.
